"And so to the mighty 2019 Ch. Musar itself. As you know, Ch. Musar only releases its grand vin once deemed ready to drink, usually after seven years, and this has hit its straps nicely and is raring... to go. With record winter rainfall (welcome after several years of drought), budburst was late but, with a perfect June, a fine harvest was promised, and this is a gem. The usual blend of Cinsault, Cab Sauv and Carignan, it’s a deep red, with hints of tapenade, spice, vanilla, herbs, rich cherries and plums. Drink it now or drink a bottle every six months and see how it changes."

"This is a wine that you sink into, like soaking in a warm bath after a hard day. You can expect intense fruit concentration in this luxurious wine, filling the palate with its sweet, rich fruit and... layers of damsons, blueberries, violets and garrigue. The tannins are abundant yet resolved and create a frame that provides a gentle grip around the rich, but never heavy, fruit. You could drink this young in its sumptuous youth but it will mature nicely over the next decade. For those interested in technical details, this was 63% whole bunch with 14 months in French oak, of which 36% was new. It is unfiltered."

"No 2018 was produced, so after the 2017 I tasted last year, we jumped to the 2019 Viña Ardanza Reserva, produced with a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha. Is fermented destemmed in... stainless steel and aged in American oak barrels, 36 months for the Tempranillo and 30 months for Garnacha, and it was blended before bottling. 2019 is a very good year for them, a small crop of powerful and concentrated wines when they produced all their brands, an exception. This is spicy, structured, balanced and powerful in this warm year, reaching the customary 14.5% alcohol and keeping a pH of 3.54 and 5.5grams of acidity. It’s still very young and undeveloped, with the classical profile, generous in American oak aromas and flavors that should slowly integrate in the wine with years in bottle. For them, 2019 means a change in Ardanza, less spicy (but still quiet spicy, with clove, vanilla and tobacco leaves) and a more fresh fruit from the Garnacha. But the year is a modern version of 2015"
