2017 G.D. Vajra, Barolo, Bricco delle Viole 6x75cl

JR17.5WE96
"Transparent pillar-box red. Powerful nose of dried something. Cherries? Rose petals? Perhaps both. Super-fresh, despite the alcohol, with such great presence in the mouth. It's not nearly ready but... it's clearly destined for great things. Sweet and chewy with a strong mineral undertow. Jewel-bright fruit. Real lift but more powerful than ethereal. Even slightly pungent with a whiff of cordite. Really refreshing health juice. Great stuff." 17.5 pts., Jancis Robinson, 10/3/2021

2017 Chateau de Beaucastel Rouge, Chateauneuf-du-Pape 3x75cl

RP94
"Now that it's in the bottle, Beaucastel's 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape comes across as full-bodied and rich, but also a bit shut down and reticent on the nose. With air, black olives and asphalt give... way to black cherries and briery spice notes, backed by velvety but substantial tannins and a long, richly textured finish. Given a few years in the cellar, I have no doubt this will drink well for the next 15-plus years." 94+ pts., Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com

2017 Le Difese, Tenuta San Guido, Toscana 6x75cl

VM90
"The 2017 Le Difese is plump, juicy and inviting, with lovely textural richness and volume. Sweet red cherry, spice, leather, tobacco and menthol ore amped up by the natural richness and radiance of... the year. This is on especially supple, lush Difese. I would prefer to drink it over the next handful of years. " 90 pts., Antonio Galloni, robertparker.com

2017 Domaines Barons de Rothschild & Nicolas Catena, Caro, Mendoza 6x75cl

RP91
"The 2017 Caro was produced as a blend of 74% Malbec and 26% Cabernet Sauvignon. It matured in French oak barrels, 80% of them new, for 18 months. It has notes of ripe black fruit, licorice and a... touch of earth, leather and graphite. The palate reveals some astringency and a dry finish with some bitterness from the oak. 56,000 bottles and 1,520 magnums produced. It was bottled in February 2019." 91 pts., Luis Guiterrez, robertparker.com

2017 Domaine Joseph Voillot, Volnay Premier Cru, Fremiets 6x75cl

DE93
"Perfumed, appealing and showing well from barrel, this may not keep for a long time, but it will be a pleasure to drink in its youth. With rose petal and strawberry-coulis notes augmented by aromatic 10% new oak, this is textured, sappy and juicy with enough underlying acidity for balance." 93 pts., Tim Atkins MW, decanter.com

2017 Penfolds, Bin 798 RWT Shiraz, Barossa Valley 3x150cl

RP98
"Sourced only from the Barossa Valley, RWT is aged exclusively in French oak, giving it two major points of difference from the rest of the Penfolds range. Always a sexy, voluptuous wine (and... admittedly a personal favorite), the 2018 RWT Shiraz ratchets that up to new heights in a great Barossa vintage, boasting layers of berry-like fruit, refined vanilla shadings and baking-spice notes, plus more exotic elements like star anise and cocoa powder. It's full-bodied and plush without being unstructured in any way, with a lingering, complex finish and the concentration to age two decades or more." 98 pts., Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com

2017 Paul Jaboulet Aine, Hermitage, La Maison Bleue 6x75cl

RP95
"Jaboulet's 2017 Hermitage La Maison Bleue is flat-out sexy stuff, full-bodied, plush and generous without being overripe or unstructured. Licorice, cassis and Asian five-spice powder burst from the... glass in a complex whirl of scents and flavors. Sourced from the eastern end of the appellation, it offers immediate gratification and admirable quality at a fraction of the price of the La Chapelle." 95 pts., Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com

2017 Domaine de Chevalier Cru Classe, Pessac-Leognan 3x150cl

JR17
"Tasted blind. Deep ruby colour. Bursting with red cherry and hints of violet on the nose, there is intrigue and joy here. The palate shows much flesh and vibrancy, with plump red berries at the... core. The acid is positively zesty yet lifts the fruit into floral tones rather than washing away the flavour. Fleet-footed and long on the finish. A wine that transparently exhibits the better elements of this vintage." 17 pts., Tom Parker MW, jancisrobinson.com

2017 Cordier Pere et Fils, Pouilly-Fuisse 6x75cl

DE94
"A little more exotic and open on the nose than some of Christophe Cordier's mouthwatering line-up of Pouilly-Fuissés in 2017, this is another premier cru in waiting. Made with four parcels, all on... white limestone soils, it moves from pear and nectarine to a finish that's taut and refreshing, showing wonderful palate length." 94 pts., Tim Atkin MW, decanter.com

2017 Cockburn’s, Vintage Port 6x75cl

RP94-96
"The terroir and the vintage combine to make this a wine that seems at the moment a bit bigger than Dow's this year. Unlike in 2015, however, it also maintains its balance well. This has velvet for... texture, fine aromatics and a long finish, but it is always elegant, never jammy. It is still concentrated, and aeration proves how well it can evolve. It finishes with some pop and power, but it will be approachable relatively young. Relatively is the key word there, as it shows plenty of power. Like the Warre's, a Symington sibling this issue, it seems to be a cut above this year, the best in the brand for a while, and superior to both the 2016 and 2015. It is able to hold up to some of its more famous siblings in the Symington stable this issue. There were 2,500 cases produced." 94-96 pts., Mark Squires, robertparker.com

2017 Klein Constantia, Vin De Constance, Constantia 6x50cl

JR18
"Lustrous mid gold. Dried apricot, orange blossom and citrus peels on the nose, suffused with nutmeg, clove and coffee cream, and an earthy, spicy, saffron-like note. Richly sweet and unctuously... textured, but with a streak of acidity that balances beautifully, and gives a preserved grapefruit and lemon flavour. Fantastic length." 18 pts., Tim Jackson MW, jancisrobinson.com

2017 Paul Cluver, Seven Flags Chardonnay, Elgin 6x75cl

VM93
"The 2017 Seven Flags Chardonnay was matured in French oak barrels for nine months using 31% new oak, the rest second- and third-fill. The nose is a little more closed than the Estate Chardonnay at... this early juncture, although there is a brooding intensity here. This is well defined, displaying hints of dried honey and white peach with aeration. The palate is fresh and crisp with hints of Golden Delicious and orange peel, the oak very well integrated and with an almost Meursault-like, nutty finish. Give this two or three years in bottle. Excellent. " 93 pts, Neal Martin, www.vinous.com
