2017 Klein Constantia, Vin De Constance, Constantia 6x50cl

JR18
"Lustrous mid gold. Dried apricot, orange blossom and citrus peels on the nose, suffused with nutmeg, clove and coffee cream, and an earthy, spicy, saffron-like note. Richly sweet and unctuously... textured, but with a streak of acidity that balances beautifully, and gives a preserved grapefruit and lemon flavour. Fantastic length." 18 pts., Tim Jackson MW, jancisrobinson.com

2019 Kanonkop, Paul Sauer, Stellenbosch 6x75cl

"The saturated ruby colour is complemented by a dense and interwoven complexity of tilled earth, nutmeg, bouquet garni, with classic cedar and redand black fruits. The wine remains classic, refined,... with an elegant structure. The tannins are precise, and together with the clever use of new oak, creates the perfect backdrop to host the complex fruit spectrum. A long, and youthful finish. (Abrie Beeslaar, winemaker, Kanonkop Estate)

2018 Kanonkop, Paul Sauer, Stellenbosch 6x75cl

VM17.5
"Inky crimson, almost black at the core. Dark, spicy, intense, powerful but introverted now. Concentrated black fruit, lovely depth and muscular richness but without being a body-builder wine. As it... opens in the glass, peppery with pure cassis and just a tiny and attractive hint of leafiness. Even a touch of violets, which is unusual on a wine dominated by the Cabernets. Chewy, long and satisfying. Dark-chocolate aftertaste. Powerful, unreconstructed, classic. Big but all beautifully in harmony. Great length. " 17.5 pts., Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com

2016 Kanonkop, Paul Sauer, Stellenbosch 6x75cl

VM96
"The 2016 Paul Sauer is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc matured for 24 months in 100% new oak. It has a supremely well defined bouquet of pure blackberry,... boysenberry and violet aromas, the oak seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, perfectly pitched acidity and a caressing texture. This was actually tasted after a fantastic 1994 Paul Sauer was opened the previous night; who is to say that it will not age as well over the next quarter-century? Not only is this a superb wine, but it surely represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in the world. " 96 pts., Neal Martin, vinous.com

2019 Crystallum, Cinema Pinot Noir, Walker Bay 6x75cl

VM93
"The 2019 Cuvee Cinema was fermented using only native yeasts and a 70/30 ratio of whole clusters to whole berries in a stainless steel tank. The wine was then transferred to barrel (25% new), where... it remained for 11 months before bottling. It has on open and expressive bouquet of pure red cherries, red currant and rose petal aromas, blossoming with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins and wonderful symmetry at play on the precise and almost Morey-Saint-Denis like finish. Excellent. " 93 pts., Neal Martin, vinous.com

2020 Domaine Morey Coffinet, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, La Romanee 6x75cl

We discovered the wines of this Chassagne-Montrachet rising star (established in its current form "only" 30 years ago, although the family cellars date from the 16th century) for the first time in... 2020, and although we were immediately impressed by the portfolio of great vineyards the Morey family cultivate, it was upon tasting the wines with Thibault Morey that we fell in love with them. The estate is run according to biodynamic principles throughout. Thibault is one of the new generation of winemakers who, through precise, rigorous work and an open mind not only to traditional and modern techniques but also to different expressions of the Burgundy terroirs, produce truly exciting wines. These are wines that combine richness and power with complexity and elegance effortlessly, and they come highly recommended. Ripe and intense, this immediately shows the fabulous opulence La Romanée is famous for. On the palate emerges impressive structure; add length and a level of complexity to rival many a Grand Cru, and you have a 1er Cru that bridges the gap with Chassagne’s most revered vineyards.

NV Frerejean Freres, VV 26 6x75cl

RP94
£570 per 6 bottles IB "A blend of the 2009 and 2008 vintages, Frerejean Frères' NV Brut Blanc de Blancs VV26 was disgorged after eight years on the lees. Bursting from the glass with a rich... bouquet of dried citrus fruit, yellow apples, honeycomb, toasted bread and walnuts, it's full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a frothy mousse and a generous, expressive palate that's underpinned by lively acids. This is showing beautifully in its somewhat old-fashioned style and comes warmly recommended. The VV26 is a blend of Chardonnay from Cremant, Avize and Oger—dominated by the former to the tune of 90%—from older parcels, some of which date back to 1926. It's the highlight of the range by some margin." 94/100 - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

2020 Domaine Anne et Herve Sigaut, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru, Les Noirots 6x75cl

VM94
"The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Noirots ler Cru, from 0.5-hectares of 40-year-old vines, feels slightly more stemmy on the nose, yet it is well defined, and the pepperiness complements the darker... fruit compared to the Les Chatelots. The palate is framed by fine tannins, this Chambolle is well-structured with a Morey-like, mineral-driven finish that fans out wonderfully. Excellent. " 94 pts., Neal Martin, vinous.com

2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet, Bourgogne, Rouge 12x75cl

Really bright ruby in appearance and showing notes of cherries and violets. It is a lovely harmonious wine already and shows great ripeness and expression that punches well above the weight of its modest appellation. It will be spot on for drinking when it arrives, but enjoyable for a good few years after that.

What a lovely wine this is. Intensely floral nose with hints of mint followed by a concentrated mouthful of deep Morrello cherry with precise and well-structured tannins. It is a great example of what this vineyard can produce in the hands of a master winemaker.

2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet, Beaune, Les Mariages 12x75cl

The delightfully named “Les Mariages” vineyard historically saw newlyweds, encouraged by the two churches nearby, ambling through the rows of pinot noir after their nuptials, and meeting there. ... It is on the lower slopes adjacent to the premier cru vineyards of Les Grèves and Les Toussaints and gives rise to wines that offer more than a passing nod to those from these outstanding terroirs. Nicolas’ ‘Les Mariages’ is a very pretty and easy-going wine that oozes ripe berry fruits and has a delightful, subtle, tannic structure. It is undeniably enjoyable now but there is certainly no rush to drink this, and patience will undoubtedly be rewarded.

2020 Samuel Billaud, Chablis Grand Cru, Bougros 6x75cl

The Billaud family have been producing great Chablis since 1815. 6th generation Samuel set out on his own in 2010 and it is fair to say that after a decade, his dynamic approach and great winemaking... touch have taken his domaine from a status of Rising Star to one of the very best, established growers in the region. Samuel makes precise, elegant and terroir-true expressions of every vineyard in his care. His wines are electric and simply crackle with the tension and vibrancy which can be found in the region's best wines. Offering scintillating wines from the refreshing, steely fresh Petit-Chablis through to bold and dynamic Grand Crus, Samuel Billaud is a master of his craft, and as Neal Martin points out, "We should see him right at the top of Chablis producers alongside the likes of Raveneau and Vincent Dauvissat". These are singular Chablis and the sheer embodiment of purity and poise. One of the most opulent Grands Crus in Chablis owing to its deep layer of top soil, Bougros in the hands of such a winemaker as Samuel, whose tireless search for precision, elegance and textural quality yields a wine of rare balance and depth. The very top vineyards in Chablis continue to deliver a stunning value alternative to those of the Côte d'Or. Long may that continue.

2020 Samuel Billaud, Chablis 12x75cl

VM89-91
The sheer precision, delicacy, concentration, and elegance expressed in Samuel Billaud’s terroir-true 2020 Chablis cuvées confirm once again why, since setting out from Domaine Billaud-Simon a... decade ago, he has become one of the region’s most respected producers. This was proven to us in our tasting room earlier this year, as all the crackling electricity, vibrancy, purity and tension of great Chablis was in full abundance and will see both the Village and Petit Chablis age beautifully over the next 5 to 7 years. Samuel crafts this cuvée from the fruit of 3 vineyards abutting top 1er crus sites such as Montée de Tonnerre, Montmains and Vaillons, chosen for their complementary qualities. The 2020 result is an outstanding Chablis with great weight and character. It has delightful citrus fruit and steely freshness that is a mouth-watering classic.
