2021 Philippe Livera (Tilleuls), Cote de Nuits-Villages 6x75cl

Crafted from fruit grown mostly in Brochon, a commune that, apart from Côtes de Nuits Village, can also produce Gevrey, Fixin and Bourgogne rouge - everything bar its own appellation! What does this one tastes like? Glorious! Dark, rich, juicy, mouth-filling with a beautifully-judged, delicately grippy structure. Superb.

2020 Philippe Livera (Tilleuls), Cote de Nuits-Villages 6x75cl

A new find for Mr.Wheeler in the 2019 vintage and one we are pleased to follow since then; Domaine Livera is widely considered the “next Burgundian star” tellingly both by consumers of their... exceptional wines together with their winemaking contemporaries. The Livera family have been settled on the Domaine for almost 100 years, but Damien, who has been in charge for 13 years now, has taken the wines to a different level altogether. His style is one of purity, precision of fruit and impressive depth, quite reminiscent of the wines produced by Arnaud Mortet (who is a close friend and advisor). This is an up-and-coming address and very much one to watch. Crisp, savoury, fresh with a core of red fruit, a delightfully raspy tannic structure, this is so thirst-quenching and moreish, it will be hard not to follow the first glass with a second. Perfect lunchtime Burgundy.

2020 Sylvie Esmonin, Cote de Nuits-Villages, Rouge 6x75cl

VM87-89
Located in the old part of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, at the foot of the legendary Clos Saint Jacques vineyard, since 1988 the scrupulous Sylvie cultivates 7 ha under her own name. Her deep... knowledge of the vines and meticulous vinification techniques result in wines of great maturity and intensity, capable of great ageing potential. As you'd expect, these wines are in very high demand and Mr.Wheeler are delighted to be offering a selection of Sylvie’s wines for the third vintage in a row. We urge you to snap up a case or two of these sensational wines, whilst you can. An altogether fuller-bodied, yet even more red fruit-dominated cuvée than the Bourgogne Rouge, Sylvie's Côte de Nuits villages is a poised, structured and balanced style of Burgundy that will age well - and indeed will require just a little patience, requiring a good 7 to 8 years to reach its drinking window where it should stay for another 7 years or so.

2021 Aurelien Verdet, Cote de Nuits-Villages, La Pretiere 6x75cl

"From vines very near to Nuits-St-Georges, here is sheer pinot delight that sums up 2021: lively freshness, structure and elegance. Deep, bright aromatic intensity showing expressive, expansive, blackberry fruit purity. Delight that sums up why Aurélien is so highly regarded in this region." (Mr.Wheeler tasting note)

2020 Aurelien Verdet, Cote de Nuits-Villages, La Pretiere 6x75cl

From his modest winery hidden off the beaten track in the little village of Arcenant in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Aurélien Verdet crafts wines of astonishing purity and precision. A highly... talented young winemaker whose following is growing steadily every year, Aurélien is no exception to the adage that “Great wine is created in the vineyard”. Indeed, he lavishes great care and attention on his 5.5 ha of vines, which he farms organically to produce fruit of superb quality. The winemaking is then all about respecting that fruit to bring the terroir through, which he does with great aplomb. A rising star to watch! From vines found in Comblachien, very close to Nuits-St-Georges, there is an unmistakable step up in quality here. Reflecting brilliantly why Aurélien Verdet is so highly regrded in the region, his Côte de Nuits Village La Prêtière offers supreme drinking pleasure with a deep and bright aromatic intensity allied to bold and expansive, pure black berry flavours. Like a "concentrate" of pinot noir, this cuvée is completed with lively freshness, structure and elegantly pure tannins.
