2021 Philippe Livera (Tilleuls), Bourgogne, Pinot Noir 6x75cl

Half the crop was lost this year but Livera’s Bourgogne rouge lost none of its joyful quality in this vintage. Super pretty core of red juicy fruit, fleshy with a nice long finish, and some hints of that liquorice that points to fruit grown on the Gevrey terroir. Very hard to beat for the value it delivers. 2019 Domaine Morey Coffinet, Bourgogne, Blanc 6x75cl

We discovered the wines from Morey-Coffinet in the autumn, and what an introduction to the range this Bourgogne Côte d’Or is - lovely melon and a hint of white peach are followed by a beautifully... pithy and saline finish. A Bourgogne of great subtlety and style with perfect balance. Excellent and could easily be mistaken for Chassagne-Montrachet! (Mr,Wheeler tasting note)

2019 Philippe Livera (Tilleuls), Bourgogne, Pinot Noir 6x75cl

Domaine Livera is one of the best additions to our portfolio in recent years, and you don’t need to climb the quality ladder very far to realise why. On the first rung sits a Bourgogne pinot noir... of such gorgeous primary fruit, super crunchy, juicy, tantalisingly moreish, it is nigh on impossible not to immediately pour a second glass. Intense citrus and elegant, pithy texture leads to pronounced mineral finish -- a serious Bourgogne Blanc, this; one to age 3 to 5 years for even more savoury complexity and length. (Mr.Wheeler tasting note)

2021 Jean-Marc Pillot, Bourgogne, Haut Champs Blanc 6x75cl

"Mix of domaine grapes from Chassagne-Montrachet and Côte Chalonnaise, with purchased grapes from the Hautes Côtes de Nuits and below Puligny. This has been the typical blend since 2019. Pale... colour, with a lifted fresh apple and greengage nose. Bouncing energy, good acidity, faintest gunflint, but above all really appealing fruit." Jasper Morris MW, www.insideburgundy.com

2021 Philippe Bouzereau, Bourgogne, Cote d’Or Blanc 6x75cl

A great introduction to Philippe's House style, this Bourgogne Côte d'Or is produced with no new oak to promote clean, fresh, pure flavours - and it achieves that goal. Fresh, rounded with a... deliciously juicy style, this is so delicious right now, it will be hard to keep it any longer than a year or two - but it could improve with a couple of years in the bottle. 2021 Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini, Bourgogne, Pinot Noir 6x75cl

This superb value, Baby-Gevrey from a single parcel of vines just below the village (and just outside of the appellation's border) delivers quality plenty of Gevrey producers would be happy with for... their Village cuvée... 100% destemmed and therefore with a lovely fleshy opulence, at its core the ripe black fruit and juicy, moreish texture yet loads of fresh.

2021 Philippe Bouzereau, Bourgogne, Cote d’Or Rouge 6x75cl

A superb cuvée blended with a majority of fruit from the Durots vineyard in Volnay, this showcases lifted aromatics, crunchy red fruit and a mouthwatering spine of acidity. This would be great with a plate of charcuterie! (Mr.Wheeler tasting note)

2021 Benjamin Leroux, Bourgogne, Rouge 6x75cl

Made primarily from fruit taken from the Côte de Beaune and aged mostly in foudres with a small percentage of new wood, this has a delicious morello cherry and hedgerow fruit nose. Its intensity and balance are exceptional for an entry level cuvee, and it is persistent with its pleasure-giving already.

2021 Benjamin Leroux, Bourgogne, Blanc 6x75cl

In this cuvée Benjamin masterfully blends fruit from mostly Meursault, with some higher altitude chardonnay from the hills above Beaune. This adds real fitness and gives a Bourgogne Blanc of real... class. Large, old oak fermenting vessels and lees ageing help keep this wine remarkably fresh and elegant, with just a hint of warm butter and the fresh zing of citrus loveliness. Superb value. 2021 Comte Armand, Bourgogne, Condemaine Blanc 6x75cl

"Although most famous for their reds, Armand have once again released an Bourgogne Blanc that is a true hidden gem. Sourced from 60+-year-old vines on clay in close proximity to Volnay, here is fruit which, aged for 12 months in year-old barrels, is thus rendered supremely elegant and finely balanced."(Mr.Wheeler tasting note)

2021 Patrick Javillier, Bourgogne, Oligocene Blanc 6x75cl

"Superb drinking pleasure, as ever. Crisp, zesty citrus countered by buttery flavours and energised by a classic thread of minerality throughout – naturally, given much of the fruit comes from vineyards adjacent to limestone-based Puligny. The best of two communes."

2020 Benjamin Leroux, Bourgogne, Rouge 6x75cl

JM88-89JR16VM84-86
Benjamin has been a good friend of ours since his days at Comte Armand, and his powerful, impressive winemaking style shines through in 2020 where concentration meets with backbone and guile in the... Volnay commune. He remembers his first ever visit to the UK back in 1999 where he spent some time staying with Richard Wheeler (Johnny's father, sadly passed away last year), memorable not least for the friendly dispute regarding the relative merits of local Mersea native Oysters versus their French counterparts! Benjamin’s Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans reflects the greatest attributes of this excellent vintage. Density, richness and structure are all to the fore in a cuvée which gets better with every passing vintage. As Bourgogne Rouge goes, the underlying quality in this one has it already scaling the appellation ladder. Expertly selected pepper-potting of different sites from across the Hautes Côtes and Côte de Beaune, together with village wines from Pommard and further afield, provides Benjamin with the palate on which to create this outstanding introduction to his range. Ripe, heady and full of immediately accessible crunchy strawberry and violet fruit, the very soft tannins and a delightful freshness hold it all together. Smiles all 'round - unmissable!

2020 Dominique Lafon, Bourgogne, Blanc 12x75cl

Already responsible for some of the very finest white wines in the world at his family Domaine in Meursault, and for some of the best value the world of wine has to offer in their Maconnais outfit;... Dominique Lafon has also been making his own wines for 11 years now, from vineyards he either owns or manages. The Dominique Lafon wines, produced at the Château de Bligny winery, are superb, showing the value of Dominique’s talent, experience and meticulous attention to detail. Simply, these are wines produced by one of the worlds greatest vinous talents. This blend of fruit from powerful Meursault and lifted, highly toned Puligny has been a firm favourite here in recent years. A classy Côte d'Or white crafted by one of the most celebrated names in the region, and at a sensationally attractive price point. Here’s a wine of stunning value -- one not to be missed.

2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet, Bourgogne, Rouge 12x75cl

Really bright ruby in appearance and showing notes of cherries and violets. It is a lovely harmonious wine already and shows great ripeness and expression that punches well above the weight of its modest appellation. It will be spot on for drinking when it arrives, but enjoyable for a good few years after that.

2020 Domaine Morey Coffinet, Bourgogne, Blanc 6x75cl

We discovered the wines of this Chassagne-Montrachet rising star (established in its current form "only" 30 years ago, although the family cellars date from the 16th century) for the first time in... 2020, and although we were immediately impressed by the portfolio of great vineyards the Morey family cultivate, it was upon tasting the wines with Thibault Morey that we fell in love with them. The estate is run according to biodynamic principles throughout. Thibault is one of the new generation of winemakers who, through precise, rigorous work and an open mind not only to traditional and modern techniques but also to different expressions of the Burgundy terroirs, produce truly exciting wines. These are wines that combine richness and power with complexity and elegance effortlessly, and they come highly recommended. Very intensely citrussy yet with an elegant, pithy texture and a dry, mineral finish. This is a very serious Bourgogne Blanc that will age well for 3 to 5 years, developing more savoury complexity and length.
