2021 Jean-Jacques Girard, Beaune Premier Cru, Clos du Roi Rouge 6x75cl

"Girard’s Clos de Roi has been consistently impressive since it was first made in 2007, and this vintage is no exception. Situated at the northern end of a strip of premier cru vineyards to the... west of Beaune it has produced a wine of ripe and forward dark cherry fruit that is entwined with a gentle and judicious use of oak and fresh acidity. The tannins are silky and refined boding well for a graceful future. " (Mr.Wheeler tasting note)

2021 Domaine Rossignol-Trapet, Beaune Premier Cru, Les Teurons 6x75cl

"Nicholas and David’s plot in “Les Teurons” is around 1.2-hectares and was planted in 1978 in a well-sited stony-rich site close to sheltering woods, The wine has a perfumed toasted cherry... nose, with an added peppery sappiness and delightful tension. There are bright red berries on the palate, which are underpinned with a crunchy and precise balance of oak and fresh acidity. It is so well put together and will unfold in a few years to give enormous pleasure." (Mr.Wheeler tasting note)

2020 Domaine Rossignol-Trapet, Beaune Premier Cru, Les Teurons 6x75cl

What a lovely wine this is. Intensely floral nose with hints of mint followed by a concentrated mouthful of deep Morrello cherry with precise and well-structured tannins. It is a great example of what this vineyard can produce in the hands of a master winemaker.

2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet, Beaune, Les Mariages 12x75cl

The delightfully named “Les Mariages” vineyard historically saw newlyweds, encouraged by the two churches nearby, ambling through the rows of pinot noir after their nuptials, and meeting there. ... It is on the lower slopes adjacent to the premier cru vineyards of Les Grèves and Les Toussaints and gives rise to wines that offer more than a passing nod to those from these outstanding terroirs. Nicolas’ ‘Les Mariages’ is a very pretty and easy-going wine that oozes ripe berry fruits and has a delightful, subtle, tannic structure. It is undeniably enjoyable now but there is certainly no rush to drink this, and patience will undoubtedly be rewarded.

2021 Claudie Jobard, Beaune Premier Cru, Les Epenotes 6x75cl

The continuation into Beaune of Les Epenots, one of two vineyards in Pommard considered for promotion to Grand Cru status. With the added mid-palate fat and ripeness in Beaune here is a cuvée that delivers superb structure and power, and will age gracefully for a couple of decades. (Mr.Wheeler tasting note)

2020 Jean-Jacques Girard, Beaune Premier Cru, Clos du Roi Rouge 6x75cl

One of Savigny’s oldest domaines, originally founded in 1529. Jean-Jacques has been producing wine here as the sole proprietor since 1998, and with significant recent investment in the cellar and... winery he is producing outstanding wines. With his long experience of viticulture, Jean-Jacques firmly believes that the best wines are made in the vineyard and thus focuses his efforts on optimising the quality and health of the grapes themselves. This effort is reflected in his delightfully supple, elegant and classic wines, with his Savigny and Corton releases of particular note in 2020. A stunning glass of wine - one to make you sit up and notice. The Clos du Roi vineyard is set on the north-western outskirts of Beaune and is part of a premier cru belt of land that produces outstanding wines. Dark cherries and a floral leafiness predominate on the nose, with developing nuances and a concertation on the palate that augur well for complexities to come. An absolute star performer once again.
