"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Canon bursts from the glass with expressive notions of baked black cherries, kirsch, plum preserves and black raspberries plus hints of red roses, Ceylon tea,... black olives and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate is wonderfully elegant and refined, with a soft, finely grained texture and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. "Even better than the 2022 release - and that's saying a good deal - this is a superb iteration of luxury group LVMH's iconis Argentinian red. Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, with support from 40%... Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot, it's dominated by fruit from Las Compuertas, with 20% from cooler Paraje Altamira. Matured in 50% new French oak, it's a wine that's approachable young but will reward patience, with sculpted tannins, seamless layers of cassis, bramble and green herbs, a touch of cigar box and a fine, tapering finish.
