2020 Domaine Albert Bichot (Pavillon), Meursault Premier Cru, Charmes 6x75cl
VM88-90
An exciting new addition to our offer a couple of years ago, and continuing on good form in 2020, Domaine Du Pavillon is located south of Pommard in the Côte de Beaune. Just as at Domaine du Clos... Frantin in Nuits-Saint-Georges, they practice organic viticulture with an ongoing respect for the complex equilibrium found in nature. The winery was modernized in 2016, allowing the vinification of more of the Côte de Beaune’s star single vineyard wines. From the 2019 vintage, all the wines from the estate have borne the certified “organic wine” label.

Always an expressive, typically floral style of Margaux, in 2020 Angludet is impressively forward, with a gorgeous fruit core blending cassis and blueberries in a velvet-lined texture, finishing with... explosive notes of Asian spices. This is such a seductive yet elegant Angludet, one of the very best I have tasted and very much a success in this vintage.

"The 2020 Berliquet has an open, quite generous bouquet of high-toned, quite floral aromas (iris and violet petals) mixed with Dorset plum, bilberry and wild strawberry. The palate is medium-bodied... with a medicinal, menthol-tinged opening, ripe and again, generous. The candied finish just needs to show a little more restraint. Fine, but it will have to manifest more elegance and composure by the time of bottling. Perhaps it was unfair to pour this against the 2020 Canon, also owned by the Wertheimer family, but it highlighted the difference between their respective terroirs." 88-90 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

“Mid crimson. Rather alluring ripe nose. Very soft and round. Not a long-distance runner but a true Margaux-style wine for early drinking. There’s even a hint of an ethereal quality about this.” Drink 2025-2034. 16 pts., jancisrobinson.com

"Floral and brightly scented with such clarity on the nose, so expressive but delicate too. I like the clarity here, it's not weighty or particularly textured but so refined on the palate, really... just gentle but so charming. So well worked with a grace of flavours where nothing sticks out but nothing too heavy either. I really like this - it's not trying too hard, still with acidity, red berry fruits and some chalky tannins. 4% Petit Verdot completes the blend." 88 pts., Georgina Hindle, decanter.com
