Description

“Earthy aromas, smoked soil, liquorice, blackcurrant leaf, dark chocolate and violets. This strikes a tone with its vibrancy and energy in the glass, there is such life here, the acidity to the fore but so well balanced with the crisp fruit and also touches of herbs and dried flowers that give this nuance. I like the upfront, bold nature, really saying; “look at what I’ve got’” but at the same delivering it so clearly and in balance with that clarity and grip all the way through and a lift – still the juicy strawberry on the finish. Good delivery and persistence with just a touch of green pepper on the finish. 43,000 bottle production. Ageing 50% new oak.” 91 pts., Georgina Hindle, decanter.com

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

Robert Parker 90-92

“A blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 Montlandrie exhibits aromas of rich berries and cherries mingled with loamy soil, spices and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, lively and incisive, it’s nicely concentrated, with fine depth at the core and a bright, saline finish. Its Côtes de Castillon origins mark this out as the most tensile, mineral wine in the Durantou portfolio.” [01/05/2022]

Anticipated maturity: 2025-2035

Delivery & Storage

Delivery

We generally use specialised fine wine delivery couriers rather than standard couriers, giving a much higher level of care and accuracy in delivering fine wines safely to you. Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

2020 Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac 6x75cl

RP91-93
"The 2020 Le Petit Mouton is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, weighing in with 13.1% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes galloping out of the glass with... exuberant notes of ripe blackcurrants, fresh blackberries and kirsch, plus suggestions of Indian spices, clove oil and chocolate box, plus a fragrant suggestion of lilacs. The medium-bodied palate has a rock-solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting the tight-knit red and black berry layers, finishing long with a peppery kick." 91-93 pts., Lisa Perrotti-Brown, robertparker.com

2019 Echo de Lynch Bages, Pauillac 6x75cl

VM90
"The 2019 Echo Lynch Bages is an absolutely joyous second wine. Ripe, plummy and wonderfully forward, the 2019 Echo is all pleasure. The signature of the house style comes through loud and clear. Hints of spice, tobacco and cedar round out the creamy, inviting finish." 92 pts., Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com

2020 Chateau L’Eglise-Clinet, Pomerol 6x75cl

VM96-98
For nearly forty years, the late Denis Durantou had, until 2019, been overseeing the dramatic transformation of this small but historic Pomerol estate, implementing a host of innovations in one of... Bordeaux's most coveted terroirs. He has quietly performed something of a revolution, introducing a host of innovations and bringing his wine-making philosophy to one of the greatest terroirs in Bordeaux. Durantou's wines have quite deservedly received many accolades, with his grand vin consistently amongst the best wines of the vintage. Fragrant, sumptuous and beautifully nuanced, they have always been perfectly structured to age gracefully for decades on end.

2020 Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan 6x75cl

DE93
"Just the colour alone is deep and vibrant. Really get finesse, precision and depth, together with low-lying aromatics and juice that flows in across the palate. Peony and violet are met by... liquorice, plum and blueberry. The tannins exert a tug backwards towards the close of play but this is a delicious wine that I strongly suggest trying. You could drink this soon, because of the mouthwatering juice, or keep for a good decade. 20% stems, 25% new oak, 75% of large casks, 13 months ageing." 93 pts., Jane Anson, decanter.com

2020 Saintayme, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 12x75cl

VM91-93
"The 2020 Saintayme is bright, punchy and wonderfully vibrant. Sweet perfumed floral notes, red berry fruit, cedar and cinnamon lend terrific aromatic brightness. In 2020, Saintayme is a bit nervy... and less fleshy than it can be. This is the first vintage made without microbullage, a technique that was previously used in some of the tanks here. I expect that will serve it well in the years to come, as the 2020 has an extra level of purity that is striking. As always, Saintayme is a selection from a 15-hectare property in Saint-Émilion's Saint Etienne de Lys district, made with a Burgundian approach in which the wine is vinified by the owner and then raised by the Durantou family." 91-93 pts. 2020 Chateau Giscours 3eme Cru Classe, Margaux 6x75cl

RP92-94
"A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot, the 2020 Giscours reveals a deep garnet-purple color and compelling notes of crushed redcurrants, plum preserves and Morello cherries, leading to... hints of lavender, wild sage, damp soil and black truffles with a touch of licorice. The medium-bodied palate bursts with vibrant red and black fruits and lots of savory accents, supported by soft, very well managed tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing on a lingering fragrant earth note." 92-94 pts., Lisa Perrotti-Brown, robertparker.com

2019 Chateau Berliquet Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM92
"The 2019 Berliquet has a refined bouquet of lifted dried iris petal scents mingling with blackberry and wild strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins and fleshy red berry... fruit laced with tobacco and Chinese five-spice, and very well proportioned and detailed on the finish. Sophisticated. Tasted twice." 91 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2021 Chateau Pontet-Canet 5eme Cru Classe, Pauillac 6x75cl

VM93-95
“The 2021 is the most classically Pauillac Pontet-Canet I have tasted in modern times. Medium in body, with striking aromatic presence, the 2021 screams with character. Grilled herbs, incense,... leather, lavender and plum open with a bit of coaxing, all framed by beams of tannin and bright, salivating acids that give the wine shape and real sense of direction. There's a bit more Petit Verdot in this year's blend, and that comes through in the wine's intensely savory profile. Aging is 50% in new wood, 35% in amphora and 15% in one year-old barrels. The 2021 was impressive all three times I tasted it” 93-95, Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com

2020 Chateau Haut-Batailley 5eme Cru Classe, Pauillac 6x75cl

RP92-94
"A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot aging in French oak barriques, 60% new, the 2020 Haut-Batailley weighs in with 13.6% alcohol, a pH of 3.85 and an IPT of 81. Deep purple-black in... color, it opens with seducing, beautifully pure notes of blackcurrant jelly, juicy blackberries and warm plums, plus hints of chocolate mint, lilacs and forest floor with a touch of ground cloves. The refreshing, medium-bodied palate gives a great burst of crunchy black berries, framed by finely grained tannins, finishing with a minty lift." 92-94 pts., Lisa Perrotti-Brown, robertpartker.com

2020 Chateau Durfort-Vivens 2eme Cru Classe, Margaux 6x75cl

DE94
"This has some pretty big tannins, sinewy and muscular, with the floral side of Cabernet on full display. Majors on savoury fruits, tobacco leaf and rosemary spices. A wine that shows a classically... balanced Margaux, not an exuberant one. Takes its time, and as it opens up a sweeter raspberry puree appears showing texture and depth with slate minerality on the finish. This is serious and a little closed right now. 30% aged in amphoras (jarres) and 70% in new oak for 18 months ageing." 94 pts., Jane Anson, decanter.com
