Description

Located in France’s Rhone Valley region, Montirius is a family-owned estate that operates from some of the richest French appellations, such as, AOC Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Cotes-du-Rhone. The family’s estate stretches across 63 acres, and was certified biodynamic in 1996. 80% grenache/20% syrah from 25-year-old vines and wonderfully balanced fruit here. On the nose it reveals aromas of cherries and raspberries and leads to a fresh, spicy, lingering finish.

Delivery & Storage

Delivery

We generally use specialised fine wine delivery couriers rather than standard couriers, giving a much higher level of care and accuracy in delivering fine wines safely to you. Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

Please read our Fine Wine Storage page for more details.

2020 Montirius, Gigondas La Tour 6x75cl

This vineyard covers an area of 16 hectares, out of which 8 are planted with very old vines. Here, the first vines were planted as early as 1925. This 16-hectare vineyard is neatly segregated into 3... slots – 10, 3 and 3. The first 10-hectare parcel has a blend of alluvium, Helvetian sand and sandstone soils. The second 3-hectare parcel has limestone-rich soil. The third 3-hectare parcel contains red clayey soils. Grenache is grown on 80% of the vineyards here, while Mourvedre vines cover the remaining 20% of the vineyards.

2020 M. Chapoutier, Crozes-Hermitage, Les Varonniers 6x75cl

DE94
"Graphite, plum and blackberry aromas. Beautifully silky, this has a good sense of fluidity but also remarkable intensity and concentration. Energetic and driven, with deep fruit and sweet tannin,... there's a mineral straightness that helps to temper that ripe fruit and ripe tannin. The alcohol is quite raised but not unbalanced; this is a cut above most Crozes-Hermitages, more serious in style and texture." 94 pts., Matt Walls, www.decanter.com
