Description

“A ripe, sexy, opulent Hermitage, the 2020 Ermitage Le Méal has lots of black raspberry, violet, spring flower, and cured meat-like aromatics. It shows its Méal origin on the palate, where it’s full-bodied, has a creamy, velvety, opulent mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and one gorgeous finish. It’s certainly the most extroverted in the lineup, but it still brings plenty of focus, freshness, and structure.” 98-100 pts., Jeb Dunnuck

Delivery & Storage

Delivery

We generally use specialised fine wine delivery couriers rather than standard couriers, giving a much higher level of care and accuracy in delivering fine wines safely to you. Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

Please read our Fine Wine Storage page for more details.

2020 M. Chapoutier, Hermitage, Le Pavillon 6x75cl

RP98-100
"Chapoutier's 2020 Ermitage le Pavillon shows a more chiseled, defined structure than the other 2020s, suggesting greater potential longevity. This full-bodied effort is loaded with purple... raspberries and cassis, but it remains tight and taut, showing fascinating tension and elegance allied to great depth and length. Impressive!" 98-100 pts., Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com

2020 Paul Jaboulet Aine, Hermitage, La Maison Bleue 6x75cl

DE92
“Mostly sourced from les Murets, the 2020 Hermitage La Maison Bleue is a solid effort, with appealing notes of blackberries, raspberries and espresso on the nose. It's full-bodied and rich, yet... streamlined and focused, with savory tones of black olives appearing on the softly dusty finish. It should drink well young, yet age well for more than a decade.” 92-94 pts, Joe Czerwinski, www.robertparker.com, (Drink 2023-2035)

2019 Yann Chave, Hermitage 6x75cl

VM94-96
"A complex bouquet evokes ripe blackberry, cherry compote, licorice and violet, energized by a spicy cracked pepper nuance. Broad and fleshy in the mouth, offering densely packed, smoke-tinged... black/blue fruit, exotic spice and floral pastille flavors that pick up a minerally nuance as the wine opens up. Shows superb delineation and spicy lift on a long, silky finish framed by steadily building tannins. There were five demi-rnuids of this wine in 2019, all of them new." 94-96, Josh Raynolds, www.vinous.com

2020 Yann Chave, Hermitage 6x75cl

DE97
Sheer Hermitage syrah elegance on full display: violet, black cherry, white pepper and liquorice nose; silky, juicy, sweet black/red cherry fruit, peppery, expansive and leading to ultra precision on a lingering finish. If you can resist the temptation of drinking this in 5 years, it will be extraordinary in 15.

2020 Paul Jaboulet Aine, Hermitage, La Chapelle Rouge 3x150cl

DE93
Blood-orange/grapefruit zest on a tight, polished nose; great minerality with deeper, plummier notes. A creamy, bitter black fruit palate; beautifully textured with an authentic, savoury, olive... tapenade core freshened further by a persistent streak of granite minerality and more juicy, deep citrus fruit. Proper grip and structure; very clean, long, peppery finish. Sheer elegance; utterly delicious.

2020 M. Chapoutier, Hermitage, l’Ermite Rouge 6x75cl

RP96-98
"The inky hued 2020 Ermitage L’Ermite is heavenly stuff, but as usual, it’s not for the instant gratification crowd. It’s also the first vintage where they’ve kept some stems as well,... although it’s impossible to tell at this young stage. Vibrant and pure cassis and blue fruits as well as powdered stone and liquid rock-like characteristics define this primordial yet flawlessly put together Hermitage. It has a finish that won’t quit and is another legendary wine from the team at Chapoutier." 98-100 pts., Jeb Dunnuck

2020 M. Chapoutier, Hermitage, Les Greffieux 6x75cl

RP95-97
"The 2020 Ermitage Les Greffieux is more elegant yet still full-bodied, with ripe, rounded tannins. Giving up notes of chocolaty dark fruits, truffle, woodsmoke, and earth, it’s a classic,... mouth-filling expression of this vineyard, which is located just below the Le Méal and consists of deep, almost pebbly soils. All Syrah aging in a mix of barrels and demi-muids, it’s going to be a ripe, sexy, yet balanced Hermitage that will offer pleasure with just short-term cellaring." 96-98 pts., Jeb Dunnuck
