Description

What a lovely wine this is. Intensely floral nose with hints of mint followed by a concentrated mouthful of deep Morrello cherry with precise and well-structured tannins. It is a great example of what this vineyard can produce in the hands of a master winemaker.

Delivery & Storage

Delivery

We generally use specialised fine wine delivery couriers rather than standard couriers, giving a much higher level of care and accuracy in delivering fine wines safely to you. Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

Please read our Fine Wine Storage page for more details.

Gorgeous pinot purity on the nose, giving crushed strawberry, rose petal and a wisp of vanilla. Rounded on the palate, medium-bodied, with marmalade notes tinging the dark berry fruit. Deliciously bitter red/dark cherry finishing up. Superb.

2020 Domaine Albert Bichot (Clos Frantin), Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, Les Rouges 6x75cl

JM91-94
Officially recognised as organic from the 2019 vintage, Domaine du Clos Frantin is the star estate within the wider Maison Albert Bichot Group. The domaine holds an exceptional range of Grand Cru and... Premier Cru sites in the Côte de Nuits and in recent years, a reduction in yields, carefully judged extraction and prudent wholebunch fermentation means that the wines now compete against those from some of the very best producers in Burgundy, whilst remaining fantastically well-priced. Mr.Wheeler is delighted to have secured a small allocation of a range of dizzying Premier and Grand Cru cuvées in 2020 and as such, an early indication of interest is highly recommended. A rarely encountered vineyard, part of Les Rouges forms a subsection of the Echézeaux Grand Cru. This 1er Cru part is directly above, and displays red cherry with delicate spicy nuances. Exquisite on the palate with plenty of grip from its tannic structure, this is an exceedingly fine Vosne Premier Cru.

2019 Joseph Roty, Bourgogne, Pressoniers Rouge 6x75cl

VM89-91
"The 2019 Bourgogne Pressonnier is cohesive on the nose of blackberry, boysenberry jam and light violet aromas unfurling with time. Silky-smooth on the entry (you might well mistake this for a Vosne-Romanée), building nicely in the mouth and showing good salinity on the finish." 89-91 pts, Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2021 Domaine Rossignol-Trapet, Beaune Premier Cru, Les Teurons 6x75cl

"Nicholas and David’s plot in “Les Teurons” is around 1.2-hectares and was planted in 1978 in a well-sited stony-rich site close to sheltering woods, The wine has a perfumed toasted cherry... nose, with an added peppery sappiness and delightful tension. There are bright red berries on the palate, which are underpinned with a crunchy and precise balance of oak and fresh acidity. It is so well put together and will unfold in a few years to give enormous pleasure." (Mr.Wheeler tasting note)

2020 Jean-Jacques Girard, Beaune Premier Cru, Clos du Roi Rouge 6x75cl

One of Savigny’s oldest domaines, originally founded in 1529. Jean-Jacques has been producing wine here as the sole proprietor since 1998, and with significant recent investment in the cellar and... winery he is producing outstanding wines. With his long experience of viticulture, Jean-Jacques firmly believes that the best wines are made in the vineyard and thus focuses his efforts on optimising the quality and health of the grapes themselves. This effort is reflected in his delightfully supple, elegant and classic wines, with his Savigny and Corton releases of particular note in 2020. A stunning glass of wine - one to make you sit up and notice. The Clos du Roi vineyard is set on the north-western outskirts of Beaune and is part of a premier cru belt of land that produces outstanding wines. Dark cherries and a floral leafiness predominate on the nose, with developing nuances and a concertation on the palate that augur well for complexities to come. An absolute star performer once again.

2020 Sylvie Esmonin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vieillles Vignes 6x75cl

Located in the old part of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, at the foot of the legendary Clos Saint Jacques vineyard, since 1988 the scrupulous Sylvie cultivates 7 ha under her own name. Her deep... knowledge of the vines and meticulous vinification techniques result in wines of great maturity and intensity, capable of great ageing potential. As you'd expect, these wines are in very high demand and Mr.Wheeler are delighted to be offering a selection of Sylvie’s wines for the third vintage in a row. We urge you to snap up a case or two of these sensational wines, whilst you can. Super fine tannins and plenty of matière here, Sylvie crafted a Gevrey Vieilles Vignes of impressive depth, and continuing in the style seen in the lower cuvées, it is clear that early picking once again was the key to keeping a salinity and freshness that lifts the richly-textured palate. Many producers would be happy with this sort of precision in their premiers crus!

2020 Domaine Anne et Herve Sigaut, Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru, Les Millandes 6x75cl

Siblings Anne and Hervé Sigaut manage a domaine established at the dawn of the 19th Century, yet they have embraced modern winemaking practices where it makes sense, balancing heritage and 21st... century know-how beautifully. The leitmotif here is one shared with many of the top addresses up and down the Côte d'Or - "great wine is made in the vineyard". The attention to detail and perfectionism are impressive, and yield perfect fruit, which is dealt with with the utmost delicacy and respect in the winery, by a team very mindful of what Chambolle-Musigny is all about - delicacy, elegance and silky texture. This is a new domaine to us this year, and we are very excited to bring these wines to you. Our favourite cuvée last year with the 2020 following suit: spicy, black fruit with a lovely mineral edge we found in most of the Sigaut cuvées. Much more tannic and structured than its Chambolle stable mates (as it should be) yet there is a poise and delicacy to the fruit and a silkiness to the texture that show the Chambolle influence. Long, savoury finish, with hints of tapenade. Truly excellent.
