Description

From extremely old vines are planted in the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail and a Grenache-dominated blend with deep aromatics, wild brambles and sweet/savoury spice on the nose. A dense, dark, grippy palate with pronounced mineral notes that shows deeper yet extremely finessed side of Gigondas.

Jeb Dunnuck 91-93

The 2020 Gigondas Les Racines offers a touch more opulence and breadth, with black cherry fruits as well as truffle, peppery herbs, and tapenade notes. Medium to full-bodied, textured, and also nicely structured, both of the 2020 Gigondas here are going to benefit from bottle age. [29/10/2021]

Anticipated maturity: 2024-2035

Delivery & Storage

Delivery

We generally use specialised fine wine delivery couriers rather than standard couriers, giving a much higher level of care and accuracy in delivering fine wines safely to you. Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

Please read our Fine Wine Storage page for more details.

2019 Yann Chave, Hermitage 3x150cl

VM94-96
"A complex bouquet evokes ripe blackberry, cherry compote, licorice and violet, energized by a spicy cracked pepper nuance. Broad and fleshy in the mouth, offering densely packed, smoke-tinged... black/blue fruit, exotic spice and floral pastille flavors that pick up a minerally nuance as the wine opens up. Shows superb delineation and spicy lift on a long, silky finish framed by steadily building tannins. There were five demi-rnuids of this wine in 2019, all of them new." 94-96, Josh Raynolds, www.vinous.com

“…a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and the rest Cinsault, Counoise and Mourvèdre—boasts vibrant aromas of lavender and ripe red raspberries. Medium to full-bodied, smooth, silky and complex, it's a beauty…” 90-93 pts., Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com

2020 Domaine du Tunnel, Cornas, Vin Noir 6x75cl

Another example of the new and refined direction in which Tunnel take Cornas. No longer the rusticity that had been typically associated with the appellation; rather, an enticingly elegant, polished... nose of black cherry and liquorice; an ultra silkiness on the palate, grippy, dense, dark black fruit and flavours of olive tapenade and corresponding sweet spice. Fresh, clean, powerful length. From 80-100-year-old vines.

"80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. Aged for 1 month in concrete. Tank sample. Tasted blind. Spicy nose with some dried herbal notes behind it and ripe raspberry fruit. Seductive mid palate and a blend of dark dense fruit, dates and liquorice. Chewy and plump finish." 15 pts., Alistair Cooper MW, jancisrobinson.com

2020 Stephane Ogier, Cotes du Rhone, Le Temps est Venu 12x75cl

Very much and old-vine grenache nose with meaty notes and good freshness and precision that is countered by a subtle richness and ripeness. Herbs, spice and fine tannins on the finish making a great case for this appellation. Perfect for when your Chateauneufs still need a few years.

2020 Paul Jaboulet Aine, Hermitage, La Maison Bleue 6x75cl

DE92
“Mostly sourced from les Murets, the 2020 Hermitage La Maison Bleue is a solid effort, with appealing notes of blackberries, raspberries and espresso on the nose. It's full-bodied and rich, yet... streamlined and focused, with savory tones of black olives appearing on the softly dusty finish. It should drink well young, yet age well for more than a decade.” 92-94 pts, Joe Czerwinski, www.robertparker.com, (Drink 2023-2035)

2017 Chateau de Beaucastel Rouge, Chateauneuf-du-Pape 3x75cl

RP94
"Now that it's in the bottle, Beaucastel's 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape comes across as full-bodied and rich, but also a bit shut down and reticent on the nose. With air, black olives and asphalt give... way to black cherries and briery spice notes, backed by velvety but substantial tannins and a long, richly textured finish. Given a few years in the cellar, I have no doubt this will drink well for the next 15-plus years." 94+ pts., Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com

"90% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre. Aged 18 months in foudres. Organic. Cask sample. Reticent nose with just the semblance of dark and red fruit. Palate rich and intense, the fruit concentrated, the tannins powerful and long. Freshness on the finish. Clearly built for ageing." 17+ pts., www.jancisrobinson.com

2020 Yann Chave, Crozes-Hermitage 12x75cl

DE92
A very fine and pure expression of syrah here from Yann Chave. Made from 25-year old vines, and without oak. Generous violet floral and white pepper nose; very juicy, sweet/bitter black fruit and savoury liquorice palate; polished, elegant, precisely structured, impeccable finish with lingering pepper spice.

2019 Domaine du Tunnel, Cornas 6x75cl

WS95
"This is really packed, offering dense waves of cassis, plum compote and blackberry reduction flavors that stay well-defined as they rumble through, with ample cast iron, sweet tapenade, lavender and... bay leaf accents. There's loads of grip on the back end, but it's well-integrated, so just let this unwind in the cellar. Best from 2024 through 2038." 95 pts., James Molesworth, winespectator.com

2019 Paul Jaboulet Aine, Crozes-Hermitage, Domaine de Thalabert 6x75cl

RP93
"Seemingly refined by the additional elevage since I reviewed a barrel sample last year, the 2019 Crozes Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert remains a big, rich, dark-fruited and almost tarry effort, but... this full-bodied wine is pleasantly velvety and marked by savory notes of scorched wood and black olive tapenade that linger on the finish." 93+ pts., Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com
