Description

An enticing expression of this more ‘rustic’ of appellations, still starting with a beautifully refined nose of black pepper, spice, bay leaf and mineral notes. On the palate, invigorating streaks of creamy minerality; juicy black bitter/sweet olive fruit and liquorice that is clean, grippy and lingering. It promises supreme drinking pleasure in 5-7 years’ time.

Delivery & Storage

Delivery

We generally use specialised fine wine delivery couriers rather than standard couriers, giving a much higher level of care and accuracy in delivering fine wines safely to you. Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

Please read our Fine Wine Storage page for more details.

2020 Domaine Melody, Crozes-Hermitage, Etoile Noire 12x75cl

Spicy, exuberant, full-bodied, but with real underlying freshness. Very well balanced, concentrated, with great finesse of tannin; all elements along with the oak are well integrated and finish with great depth and length.

2019 Domaine de la Bouissiere, Gigondas 12x75cl

Under the vigilant and inspired stewardship of Thierry Faravel, Domaine de la Bouïssière has become one of the leading producers in Gigondas, producing classic, age worthy and expressive wines of... great balance. The 2020 is a traditional blend of three-quarter Grenache with Syrah and Mourvèdre making up the balance. The 60 year-old vines deliver an intense wine with dried Mediterranean herbs lifting the juicy black cherry aromatics. This is superb now and will improve over the next 3 to 5 years.

2020 Paul Jaboulet Aine, Hermitage, La Chapelle Rouge 3x150cl

DE93
Blood-orange/grapefruit zest on a tight, polished nose; great minerality with deeper, plummier notes. A creamy, bitter black fruit palate; beautifully textured with an authentic, savoury, olive... tapenade core freshened further by a persistent streak of granite minerality and more juicy, deep citrus fruit. Proper grip and structure; very clean, long, peppery finish. Sheer elegance; utterly delicious.

2018 Jean-Luc Colombo, Cornas, La Louvee 6x75cl

RP93
“Summer-like scents of crushed stone, dusty roads, dried herbs and wild blackberries appear on the nose of the 2018 Cornas la Louvee. Looking much better from bottle than a pre-bottling sample I... tasted in Cornas, it avoids any sense of jammy excess. Medium to full-bodied, it's supple and ripe, smooth and easy to drink, with a long, silky finish that adds savory hints of beef and anise.” 93 pts., Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com. 2020 M. Chapoutier, Crozes-Hermitage, Les Varonniers 6x75cl

DE94
"Graphite, plum and blackberry aromas. Beautifully silky, this has a good sense of fluidity but also remarkable intensity and concentration. Energetic and driven, with deep fruit and sweet tannin,... there's a mineral straightness that helps to temper that ripe fruit and ripe tannin. The alcohol is quite raised but not unbalanced; this is a cut above most Crozes-Hermitages, more serious in style and texture." 94 pts., Matt Walls, www.decanter.com

2020 Domaine de la Bouissiere, Gigondas, Font De Tonin 12x75cl

Rightly described as a 'mountain' Gigondas, as its 80% grenache and 20% mourvedre are sourced at elevations between 300 and 500m just below the Dentelles de Montmirail. Compact nose of sweet, spicy... black fruit, bay leaf and olive; on the palate liquorice, juicy black and red fruit; power, rich, pure and deeply expressive, refined tannins finishing long with great precision and freshness.

2019 Jean-Luc Colombo, Cote Rotie, La Divine 6x75cl

"Real intrigue on the nose with the viognier imbuing red apple skin to contrast syrah’s olive-black fruit, sweetly spiced notes and hints of smoke. On the palate juicy, sweet/dark fruit, with a... recurring streak of apply viognier and pepper. Well-structured, round, superbly concentrated; great length, juicy, with a generous, peppery finish." 2020 Famille Perrin, Gigondas, Domaine du Clos des Tourelles 6x75cl

JR17
"Mid crimson. Has the garrigue and gently floral aroma of the L'Argnée Gigondas 2020. A little bit toasty too. Deliciously scented. Firm and serious on the palate. Finely dry tannins. A restrained style compared with the Famille Perrin La Gille Gigondas 2020." 17 pts., www.jancisrobinson.com

2020 Domaine Vieux Telegraphe, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rouge 6x75cl

DE96
65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault and others. Cask sample. Spicy, rather funky character on the nose. Sweet fruit but there is a hint of astringency here which takes away from... the whole. Acidity quite forward. Berry fruit on the palate. Firm tannins, less immediately appealing than many a 2020 Châteauneuf. 15.5+ pts., www.jancisrobinson.com

2020 Jasmin, Cote Rotie, Giroflarie 12x75cl

Ampuis-based Jasmin has the advantage of choosing from 12 different plots for blending this exceptional Cote-Rotie (95% syrah, 5% viognier) which he ages for 18 months. His 'Giroflarie' is... considered by many to be the most 'Burgundian' of cuvées in the appellation, drinking quite deliciously in its youth yet also packing the stuff for a good 20 years of graceful ageing.

2018 Jean-Luc Colombo, Cornas, Les Ruchets 6x75cl

RP94
"Maybe a touch more concentrated than Colombo's la Louvée bottling but also having a slightly coarser, more open-knit texture, the 2018 Cornas les Ruchets leads off with hints of mint, fennel,... crushed stone and blackberries. It's full-bodied and rich, expansive and generous without crossing over into being jammy, with savory notes of black olives and roast meat to balance out the ripe fruit and a lingering, softly tannic finish.” 94 pts., Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com (Available for dispatch early July 2022)
