Description

The wedding of Vosne-Romanée’s Anne-Françoise Gros to Pommard’s François Parent led to the establishment in 1988 of this superb domaine, with excellent holdings across both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. With the help of their children Caroline and Mathieu, they produce generous wines of power and depth, with gentle extraction and cool maceration giving the wines a beautifully seductive velvety texture. The bottlings’ labels are all adorned with a different female head, inspired by Anne-Françoise and the artist’s interpretation of the vineyard’s style.
Berry fruits and cherries pervade this wonderful expression of single climat Vosne-Romanée. It has a delightfully soft mouthfeel with silky tannins and a hint of toasty oak in the background. An outstandingly well-made wine at this level.

Delivery & Storage

Delivery

We generally use specialised fine wine delivery couriers rather than standard couriers, giving a much higher level of care and accuracy in delivering fine wines safely to you. Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

2020 Domaine Morey Coffinet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Chaumees 6x75cl

We discovered the wines of this Chassagne-Montrachet rising star (established in its current form "only" 30 years ago, although the family cellars date from the 16th century) for the first time in... 2020, and although we were immediately impressed by the portfolio of great vineyards the Morey family cultivate, it was upon tasting the wines with Thibault Morey that we fell in love with them. The estate is run according to biodynamic principles throughout. Thibault is one of the new generation of winemakers who, through precise, rigorous work and an open mind not only to traditional and modern techniques but also to different expressions of the Burgundy terroirs, produce truly exciting wines. These are wines that combine richness and power with complexity and elegance effortlessly, and they come highly recommended. For a Villages Chassagne, Thibault's Chaumes displays a lovely depth of fruit; on the mid-palate we are greeted with ripe, juicy black cherry, yet there is an excellent energy and move toward fresher flavours on the finish. The fine, gently firm and fruit-coated tannin structure makes for a wine that will drink beautifully from 3 years in bottle all the way to 8 years. Another excellent example of the consistency from this Domaine.

2020 Sylvie Esmonin, Volnay Premier Cru, Santenots 6x75cl

Although firmly based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Sylvie also does a mere 0.17 hectares of this Volnay Premier Cru. And making wines of such maturity and complexity as she does in the Cote d'Or, here her... rendering of pinot noir planted on Les Santenots' clay-rich terroir makes for a full-bodied wine, velvety in texture and cleanly defined. Fresh violets on the nose, lots of black cherry and mild spice with finely tuned tannins on the palate, it retains great freshness, depth and length finishing up.

2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet, Beaune, Les Mariages 12x75cl

The delightfully named “Les Mariages” vineyard historically saw newlyweds, encouraged by the two churches nearby, ambling through the rows of pinot noir after their nuptials, and meeting there. ... It is on the lower slopes adjacent to the premier cru vineyards of Les Grèves and Les Toussaints and gives rise to wines that offer more than a passing nod to those from these outstanding terroirs. Nicolas’ ‘Les Mariages’ is a very pretty and easy-going wine that oozes ripe berry fruits and has a delightful, subtle, tannic structure. It is undeniably enjoyable now but there is certainly no rush to drink this, and patience will undoubtedly be rewarded.

2020 Benjamin Leroux, Bourgogne, Rouge 6x75cl

VM84-86
Benjamin has been a good friend of ours since his days at Comte Armand, and his powerful, impressive winemaking style shines through in 2020 where concentration meets with backbone and guile in the... Volnay commune. He remembers his first ever visit to the UK back in 1999 where he spent some time staying with Richard Wheeler (Johnny's father, sadly passed away last year), memorable not least for the friendly dispute regarding the relative merits of local Mersea native Oysters versus their French counterparts! Benjamin’s Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans reflects the greatest attributes of this excellent vintage. Density, richness and structure are all to the fore in a cuvée which gets better with every passing vintage. As Bourgogne Rouge goes, the underlying quality in this one has it already scaling the appellation ladder. Expertly selected pepper-potting of different sites from across the Hautes Côtes and Côte de Beaune, together with village wines from Pommard and further afield, provides Benjamin with the palate on which to create this outstanding introduction to his range. Ripe, heady and full of immediately accessible crunchy strawberry and violet fruit, the very soft tannins and a delightful freshness hold it all together. Smiles all 'round - unmissable!

2020 Domaine Anne et Herve Sigaut, Chambolle-Musigny 6x75cl

Siblings Anne and Hervé Sigaut manage a domaine established at the dawn of the 19th Century, yet they have embraced modern winemaking practices where it makes sense, balancing heritage and 21st... century know-how beautifully. The leitmotif here is one shared with many of the top addresses up and down the Côte d'Or - "great wine is made in the vineyard". The attention to detail and perfectionism are impressive, and yield perfect fruit, which is dealt with with the utmost delicacy and respect in the winery, by a team very mindful of what Chambolle-Musigny is all about - delicacy, elegance and silky texture. This is a new domaine to us this year, and we are very excited to bring these wines to you. Silky, juicy texture, dominated on the palate by a lovely red fruit core and subtle hints of white pepper, followed by a wonderful energy on the finish, this is a truly lovely Chambolle Villages.

2020 Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM93-95
"The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru was very closed on the nose despite encouragement. This feels very introverted. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, more expressive... here in the mouth than on the nose with black pepper, bay leaf and clove towards the finish. Give this a few years in bottle and wait for the aromatics to blossom." 93-95 pts, Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2020 Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet, Bourgogne, Hautes Cotes de Nuits 6x75cl

VM86
The 2020 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge has a light cranberry and wild strawberry scented bouquet, quite vivacious with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, quite tart with a light finish that just needs a little more grip.

2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet, Bourgogne, Rouge 12x75cl

Really bright ruby in appearance and showing notes of cherries and violets. It is a lovely harmonious wine already and shows great ripeness and expression that punches well above the weight of its modest appellation. It will be spot on for drinking when it arrives, but enjoyable for a good few years after that.

2020 Jean-Jacques Girard, Savigny-les-Beaune Premier Cru, Aux Serpentieres 6x75cl

One of Savigny’s oldest domaines, originally founded in 1529. Jean-Jacques has been producing wine here as the sole proprietor since 1998, and with significant recent investment in the cellar and... winery he is producing outstanding wines. With his long experience of viticulture, Jean-Jacques firmly believes that the best wines are made in the vineyard and thus focuses his efforts on optimising the quality and health of the grapes themselves. This effort is reflected in his delightfully supple, elegant and classic wines, with his Savigny and Corton releases of particular note in 2020. Jeane-Jacques Les Serpentières offers such great value. Opulent and concentrated raspberries and cassis are intertwined with hints of sweet-scented oak and velvety tannins. Outstanding.

2020 Philippe Livera (Tilleuls), Bourgogne, Pinot Noir 6x75cl

A new find for Mr.Wheeler in the 2019 vintage and one we are pleased to follow since then; Domaine Livera is widely considered the “next Burgundian star” tellingly both by consumers of their... exceptional wines together with their winemaking contemporaries. The Livera family have been settled on the Domaine for almost 100 years, but Damien, who has been in charge for 13 years now, has taken the wines to a different level altogether. His style is one of purity, precision of fruit and impressive depth, quite reminiscent of the wines produced by Arnaud Mortet (who is a close friend and advisor). This is an up-and-coming address and very much one to watch. Simply outstanding this year; so pretty, floral with a background of juicy black fruit that is gorgeously textured; joyful, sophisticated and poised on the finish. A very, very fine Bourgogne rouge from vines across Gevrey-Chambertin.

2020 Jean-Jacques Girard, Beaune Premier Cru, Clos du Roi Rouge 6x75cl

One of Savigny’s oldest domaines, originally founded in 1529. This effort is reflected in his delightfully supple, elegant and classic wines, with his Savigny and Corton releases of particular note in 2020. A stunning glass of wine - one to make you sit up and notice. The Clos du Roi vineyard is set on the north-western outskirts of Beaune and is part of a premier cru belt of land that produces outstanding wines. Dark cherries and a floral leafiness predominate on the nose, with developing nuances and a concertation on the palate that augur well for complexities to come. An absolute star performer once again.
