Description

“The 2020 Palmer, which was matured in 65% new oak, possesses one of the most perfumed bouquets of the vintage with entrancing, seductive scents of black cherries, wild strawberry, iodine and crushed violets, all beautifully delineated (as per usual). The palate is medium-bodied with fine but quite firm tannins, lending this Palmer more backbone than presupposed. Blackberry, graphite and touches of liquorice develop with aeration that build towards an assertive, pencil box-tinged finish that nods towards Pauillac. This is a Palmer destined for long-term ageing, so readers should have a cool damp cellar handy. It is a serious Palmer, very different from the previous two vintages, not a mix of the two, but content in just being itself.” 96-98 pts. Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

Delivery & Storage

Delivery

We generally use specialised fine wine delivery couriers rather than standard couriers, giving a much higher level of care and accuracy in delivering fine wines safely to you. Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

2018 Chateau Angludet, Margaux 6x75cl

VM91
The 2018 Angludet has a very attractive bouquet of pure blackberry and blueberry fruit, a discreet floral element and glimpses of cassis coming through with aeration. It is delicate but very refined.... The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a little pinched on the entry but gradually fanning out toward the finish, which is detailed and full of tension. One of the best vintages of Angludet that I have tasted in recent years. 91 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2020 Chateau Malescot St. Exupery 3eme Cru Classe, Margaux 6x75cl

RP95-97
"Sporting a deep purple-black color, the 2020 Malescot St. Exupery prances out of the glass with showy scents of ripe black and red currants, black cherries, raspberry leaves and ground cloves, plus... wafts of lilacs and tilled soil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating black and red fruit layers with a firm, grainy texture and well-balanced acidity, finishing on a lingering fragrant-earth note." 95-97 pts., Lisa Perrotti-Brown, robertparker.com

2020 Chateau d’Issan 3eme Cru Classe, Margaux 6x75cl

RP93-95
From one of the Left Bank's oldest properties dating back to the 12th-century and now run by the Lorenzetti family and located within a kilometre of the Chateau Margaux itself. Subtle fragrances and... moreish fruit in the 2020 d'Issan, and a third of three consecutive, stellar vintages and again an absolutely expression of Margaux terroir. Precision and elegance here combine for a an intensity of flavour defined by harmonious tannins that gives way to a long, generous finish.

2021 Chateau Angludet, Margaux 6x75cl

VM88-90
“Mid crimson. Rather alluring ripe nose. Very soft and round. Not a long-distance runner but a true Margaux-style wine for early drinking. There’s even a hint of an ethereal quality about this.” Drink 2025-2034. 16 pts., jancisrobinson.com

2019 Alter Ego, Margaux 6x75cl

VM93
"The 2019 Alter Ego de Palmer has a classically styled bouquet featuring a mélange of red and black fruit, briar, hints of cedar, and a touch of black tea, all showing lovely delineation. The palate... is fresh and vibrant, displaying a touch of sour cherry on the granular-textured opening. There is something very "old school" about this Alter Ego in contrast to the 2018. Very saline toward the finish, with good persistence." 93 pts. Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2018 Chateau d’Issan 3eme Cru Classe, Margaux 6x75cl

VM92
"The 2018 Château d’Issan offers fragrant blackberry, cedar and light peppermint scents on a nose that gently unfolds with aeration. This is charming and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with... sappy black fruit and fine intensity. A dusting of dark chocolate appears toward the finish, which needs some time to fully cohere; cellar it for 4–6 years. A very capable Margaux that should develop well in bottle." 92 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2021 Chateau Giscours 3eme Cru Classe, Margaux 6x75cl

RP93-95
"The 2021 Giscours is immensely promising and shows just how far this important estate has come in the last few years. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of cassis, dark berries, cigar wrapper,... violets, sweet forest floor and burning embers, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with terrific depth at the core, ripe tannins, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish. With wines like this, we're back to a level of quality that Giscours hasn't routinely attained since the 1970s! The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot; and even if by the standards of the last decade, that isn't a particularly elevated percentage of Cabernet, this is nonetheless a very Cabernet-driven wine in style. Tasted six times." 93-95 pts, William Kelley, www.robertparker.com

2020 Chateau Angludet, Margaux 6x75cl

VM88-90
Always an expressive, typically floral style of Margaux, in 2020 Angludet is impressively forward, with a gorgeous fruit core blending cassis and blueberries in a velvet-lined texture, finishing with... explosive notes of Asian spices. This is such a seductive yet elegant Angludet, one of the very best I have tasted and very much a success in this vintage.

2020 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux, Margaux 6x75cl

JA94
Pavillon Rouge is the second wine of Chateau Margaux, whose quality closely approaches that of the first wine as all the plots involved contribute to the blending of Château Margaux. Not quite the... same complexity, of course, nor the same depth or “magic”, however the flavours are close and the balance in the mouth leads to the same subtle senses of power and softness. Generally ready to drink a little earlier whilst retaining an excellent potential to age largely beyond 30 or 40 years.

2020 Chateau Durfort-Vivens 2eme Cru Classe, Margaux 6x75cl

DE94
"This has some pretty big tannins, sinewy and muscular, with the floral side of Cabernet on full display. Majors on savoury fruits, tobacco leaf and rosemary spices. A wine that shows a classically... balanced Margaux, not an exuberant one. Takes its time, and as it opens up a sweeter raspberry puree appears showing texture and depth with slate minerality on the finish. This is serious and a little closed right now. 30% aged in amphoras (jarres) and 70% in new oak for 18 months ageing." 94 pts., Jane Anson, decanter.com

2018 Chateau Brane-Cantenac 2eme Cru Classe, Margaux 12x75cl

VM95
"The 2018 Brane-Cantenac opens with a super-classic bouquet of dried herbs, pencil shavings, licorice and mint. Medium in body and wonderfully nuanced, Brane-Cantenac marries the natural richness of... the year with a classic structural feel. This is one of the most elegant, restrained 2018s readers will come across. I loved it." 95 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2021 Chateau Rauzan-Segla 2eme Cru Classe, Margaux 6x75cl

DE96
"A showstopper of a wine for me in 2021. Wonderful aromatic intensity on the nose filled with perfumed fruits, chocolate and wild flowers. Gorgeous clarity and precision, the tannins are fine and... powdery supporting the vibrant and energetic purple and black fruit; zingy blackcurrant, strawberry, cherry and plum with an overall creamy chalky texture and grip. Elegant and glamorous - so much styling on show, it feels polished and pristine with clear markings from the terroir but no harshness or austerity just great acidity and liveliness. Such mouthwatering salivation and lift at the end making you want another glass just to taste it again. Tasted twice and both times I loved it. Pure and precise with everything you want from a 2021." 96 pts., Georgina Hindle, decanter.com
