Description

“The 2020 Beau-Séjour Bécot was picked 8 September until 30 September, but mostly between 8-12 September, around 70% of the production. It is one of the highest percentages of Merlot in recent years partly due to restructuring of the vineyard and also higher yields (47-48hl/ha) compared to the Cabernets. With no SO2 used during fermentation and matured in 55% new oak (20hl Stockinger and Taransaud foudres and regular barriques) it is tightly wound on the nose, so I afforded the sample an hour to really open. It offers predominantly red berry fruit, wild mint and traces of dried honey, more floral scents emerging, violet and iris flower blossoming with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, very well judged acidity, a very graceful and unpretentious Saint-Émilion, harmonious with a touch of white pepper enhancing the precise finish. This is a classically styled Beau-Séjour Bécot that conveys a brooding intensity, so I would give it several years in the cellar.” 92-94 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

Delivery

We generally use specialised fine wine delivery couriers rather than standard couriers, giving a much higher level of care and accuracy in delivering fine wines safely to you. Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

2021 Chateau Angelus Premier Grand Cru Classe A, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

DE95
"A brilliant wine that signposts this estate's evolution under Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, the 2021 Angélus is a blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot, with fully half of the old-vine... Cabernet Franc maturing in foudres rather than 225-liter barriques. The result is a wine of unprecedented purity and finesse, unwinding in the glass with compelling aromas of plums, raspberries, rose petals, vine smoke, blood orange and warm spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and layered palate with a rich and fleshy core that entirely conceals its structuring chassis of ultra-refined tannins. Bright and sapid, it's striking for its integration and elegance at this early stage, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it upstage a number of more touted vintages once it's in bottle." 94-96 pts., William Kelley, robertparker.com

2020 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM93-95
Another top performance in the 2020 from this St-Emilion GC that can't help but get better with each vintage. Here is a merlot-led Right Bank claret of deep garnet-purple in color with powerful... scents of baked blackberries, stewed black plums and boysenberries bounding out of the glass, Then cedar, mocha, tar and lifted wafts of liquorice and cardamom. A rich, full-bodied palate densely packed with juicy black fruits, supported by velvety tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long and luxuriously.

2018 Croix Canon, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM92
"The 2018 Croix Canon is a total pleasure to taste today. Sumptuous and inviting, with so much appeal, Croix Canon is a fabulous wine to drink now and over the next decade, maybe more. Soft curves,... silky tannins and pliant fruit give the 2018 so much charm. Dark plum, spice, new leather, rose petal and mint all wrap around the juicy finish. In a word: exquisite." 92 pts., Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com

2019 Chateau Moulin Saint-Georges, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM93
"The 2019 Moulin Saint-Georges is another wine in this range from the Vauthier family that shows decidedly mid-weight structure. Bright acids are especially present today. Moulin Saint-Georges is an... understated wine that isn't especially obvious today, but that appears to have quite a bit of potential once it fully comes together. I especially like the vibrancy here." 90 pts., Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com

2020 Petit-Figeac, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

Long one of the “hidden gems” of the top estates in St Emilion, Château Figeac has been going from strength to strength over the past 15 years, and with greater recognition, greater price tags... have come. Cue in “Petit-Figeac”, the estate’s second wine and a brilliant way to get this superb Château’s style, at a fraction of the cost. Figeac is undoubtedly one of the most successful and sought-after wines in 2020, and its little brother, with its opened aromatics, firm structure and velvety mouthfeel, is a must-have. A cabernet franc dominant cuvée also made only from vineyard fruit. A supple, expressive, and beautifully delineated wine, it is everything its name says and will easily continue as for the next 10 to 15 years.

2020 Chateau Angelus Premier Grand Cru Classe A, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM96-98
The wine displays a brilliant, dense, very dark, almost black colour with dark purple tones, mirroring the perfect ripeness of the grapes and their optimal pH level. The nose exhibits intense aromas... of juicy black fruits, such as wild cherries and blackberries. Elegant floral notes then come through, such as peony and violets. Refined tannins underpin a long-lasting, spherical, voluptuous structure on the palate, while the flavours linger long, bringing a sensation of freshness and harmony. This vintage displays a seldom-achieved degree of elegance, while the highest levels of purity and precision are reached with this blend of extraordinary Merlot and characterful Cabernet Franc.

2020 Clos La Gaffeliere, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

DE91
"Bright plum, cranberry and cherry fruit, some easy-to-love freshness. Unfussy and appealing with a limestone kick and chalky finish. Second wine of Château la Gaffelière, made since 1985. Has its own separate wine cellar, with grapes that come from specific plots." 91 pts., Jane Anson, decanter.com

2021 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

"80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. 35 hl/ha. Cask sample. Lively and fresh with red-berry notes. Tension and length on the palate but sufficient fruit to add a bit of flesh. Chalky, terroir finish but nothing tough or exaggerated. Pleasing medium-term drinking." 16 pts., James Lawther MW, jancisrobinson.com

2021 Chateau Figeac Premier Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM95-97
The 2021 Figeac was picked from September 21 until October 19 and matured, as usual, in 100% new oak. It has a very pure, elegant bouquet, the Cabernet Sauvignon imparting subtle pencil lead notes,... blackberry and briar, almost understated at first but gaining vigor with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and just the right amount of sapidity. There is unerring symmetry about this Figeac, which is extremely focused yet unconcerned about showing off. There is lovely piquancy on the finish. Unequivocally one the finest Right Bank wines in 2021. Frédéric Faye continues to guide Figeac to the pinnacle of the appellation. (13.0% alcohol) 95-97 pts, Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2020 Chateau Quintus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

DE93
"Exuberant and confident, with powerful damson and black cherry fruit flavours on the nose. Chocolate and liquorice run through the palate from beginning to end, and this is full of signature... St-Emilion glamour. It has a round and supple texture through the mid palate, but the alcohol hides some of the limestone nuance at this point - it will no doubt emerge more clearly with 8 to 10 years in bottle." Drink 2029-2044. 93 pts., Jane Anson, decanter.com

2020 Chateau Troplong Mondot Premier Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM94-96
The release of Château Troplong-Mondot is yet another St Emilion heavyweight to add significant Right Bank momentum to the 2020 EP campaign. And Troplong is up there with the best: 97 points from... Decanter, 94-96 from Neal Martin; it’s clear just how stunning Right Bank merlot has been in 2020. Plum liqueur, liquorice, flowers and earth on the nose give way to a concentrated, powerful, luxurious palate and pervasive minerality that finishes in stunning complexity. And a generous cabernet component does all the more to ensure its greatness in form will show greatness in age.

RP90-92
"Composed of 84.7% Merlot and 15.3% Cabernet Franc, while possessing an alcohol of 15.2%, the 2020 le Dragon de Quintus has a deep garnet-purple color and notions of plum preserves, kirsch, black... raspberries and cinnamon toast, plus hints of mossy tree bark and incense. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with juicy black and red berries, supported by soft tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and spicy." 90-92 pts., Lisa Perrotti-Brown, robertparker.com
