Description

“The 2019 Le Petit Cheval has a vivid bouquet of raspberry, wild strawberry, black currant, and hints of fresh raisin and fig. The palate is medium-bodied with a granular texture and fine weight and depth, delivering dark red berry fruit laced with brown spice and cracked black pepper. Enjoy this over the next 10 years.” 90 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

Vinous 94

The 2019 Petit Cheval is a stunning second wine – if it can even be called that. In 2019, Petit Cheval is a blend of four parcels that were in the Grand Vin in 2018. Dark, supple and expressive, the 2019 offers up an exotic mélange of black cherry, spice, new leather and graphite, all of which build effortlessly in the glass. [Antonio Galloni, 01/02/2022]

Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

"The 2018 Moulin Saint-Georges is packed with inky blue fruit, lavender, spice, mocha and licorice. Succulent and racy to the core, the 2018 offers tons of immediacy and charm. Silky tannins, soft... curves and tons of sheer allure make Moulin Saint-Georges a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next two decades. 2019 Chateau Berliquet Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM92
"The 2019 Berliquet has a refined bouquet of lifted dried iris petal scents mingling with blackberry and wild strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins and fleshy red berry... fruit laced with tobacco and Chinese five-spice, and very well proportioned and detailed on the finish. Sophisticated. Tasted twice." 91 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2020 Chateau Berliquet Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM88-90
"The 2020 Berliquet has an open, quite generous bouquet of high-toned, quite floral aromas (iris and violet petals) mixed with Dorset plum, bilberry and wild strawberry. The palate is medium-bodied... with a medicinal, menthol-tinged opening, ripe and again, generous. The candied finish just needs to show a little more restraint. Fine, but it will have to manifest more elegance and composure by the time of bottling. Perhaps it was unfair to pour this against the 2020 Canon, also owned by the Wertheimer family, but it highlighted the difference between their respective terroirs." 88-90 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2018 Chateau Troplong Mondot Premier Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

RP96
"The 2018 Troplong Mondot is blended of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc, with 15% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, with considerable coaxing and swirling it slowly... emerges from the glass like a waking giant, building to a towering bouquet of preserved plums, blueberry pie and Morello cherries with gentler wafts of violets, star anise, fruitcake and cast-iron pan. The concentrated, full-bodied palate possesses impressive purity and brightness of fruit commingled with richer, riper elements and supported by firm, velvety tannins, finishing with lovely freshness and on a lingering ferrous note. It's a wine that's not just delicious, it's seriously interesting too." 96 Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, www.robertparker.com

2011 Chateau Angelus Premier Grand Cru Classe A, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

"The 2011 Angelus is another winner from Hubert de Bouard. Supple and sexy with lots of blueberry and black raspberry fruit intermixed with licorice, barbecue smoke and camphor, this medium to... full-bodied, supple-textured, sexy effort offers delicious drinking now, and promises to become even better over the next decade. It should keep for 15 or more years." 94 pts., Robert Parker Jr.

"Bright plum, cranberry and cherry fruit, some easy-to-love freshness. Unfussy and appealing with a limestone kick and chalky finish. Second wine of Château la Gaffelière, made since 1985. 2019 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM95
"The 2019 Tour Saint Christophe is a broad, powerful wine that captures all of the intensity typical of this sector of Saint-Émilion. Black cherry, espresso, chocolate, licorice, graphite and dark... spice give the 2019 a decidedly somber, brooding feel. There is plenty to look forward to here - that much is clear." 92-94 pts., Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com

2019 Carillon d’Angelus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM92
"The 2019 Le Carillon d'Angélus, bottled in May 2021, has a delineated, poised bouquet of those same aromas that I observed from the barrel sample bottle – black cherries, raspberry and iris... petals– though with a very slight marine influence that becomes more accentuated with time. The fresh palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainier tannins compared to last year, fine grip and a touch of black pepper toward the finish. This is a very fine Deuxième Vin that should drink well after 3–4 years... " 92 pts. Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2018 Croix Canon, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM92
"The 2018 Croix Canon is a total pleasure to taste today. Sumptuous and inviting, with so much appeal, Croix Canon is a fabulous wine to drink now and over the next decade, maybe more. Soft curves,... silky tannins and pliant fruit give the 2018 so much charm. Dark plum, spice, new leather, rose petal and mint all wrap around the juicy finish. In a word: exquisite." 92 pts., Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com

2020 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM93-95
Another top performance in the 2020 from this St-Emilion GC that can't help but get better with each vintage. Here is a merlot-led Right Bank claret of deep garnet-purple in color with powerful... scents of baked blackberries, stewed black plums and boysenberries bounding out of the glass, Then cedar, mocha, tar and lifted wafts of liquorice and cardamom. A rich, full-bodied palate densely packed with juicy black fruits, supported by velvety tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long and luxuriously.

2020 Chateau Troplong Mondot Premier Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM94-96
The release of Château Troplong-Mondot is yet another St Emilion heavyweight to add significant Right Bank momentum to the 2020 EP campaign. And Troplong is up there with the best: 97 points from... Decanter, 94-96 from Neal Martin; it’s clear just how stunning Right Bank merlot has been in 2020. Plum liqueur, liquorice, flowers and earth on the nose give way to a concentrated, powerful, luxurious palate and pervasive minerality that finishes in stunning complexity. And a generous cabernet component does all the more to ensure its greatness in form will show greatness in age.

2020 Croix Canon, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

RP90-92
"The 2020 Croix Canon is a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, aging for 18 months in French oak, 30% new. It weighs in with 14.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.53. Deep garnet-purple colored, it... drifts out of the glass with alluring scents of plum preserves, blueberry pie and mulberries, plus touches of potpourri, Chinese five spice and fallen leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of juicy black and blue fruits, supported by plush tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and spicy." 90-92 pts., Lisa Perrotti-Brown, robertparker.com
