Delivery & Storage

Delivery

We generally use specialised fine wine delivery couriers rather than standard couriers, giving a much higher level of care and accuracy in delivering fine wines safely to you. Wines can be delivered duty-paid to UK addresses upon payment of the required duty, VAT, delivery and storage charges (if applicable). Duty and VAT are as set by HMRC at the time of delivery. Delivery charges are based on number of cases to be delivered and are standard for all UK addresses except highlands and islands. Please ask for a quotation for highlands and islands, transfers to another bonded warehouse and for international transfers.

Please read our Delivery page for more details.

Storage

Mr.Wheeler’s Private Reserves offer perfect storage conditions for your fine wine until you are ready to drink or sell it. Our in-bond facilities are temperature and moisture-controlled, fully insured at replacement value, and accessible whenever you want. At Mr.Wheeler’s specialist wine storage facility in Burton-Upon-Trent, all private client reserves are marked with a unique rotation number as required by HM Revenue & Customs for bonded goods. In addition, each case of wine is clearly identifiable, confirming your ownership.

Please read our Fine Wine Storage page for more details.

2020 Dominique Lafon, Meursault, Blanc 6x75cl

Already responsible for some of the very finest white wines in the world at his family Domaine in Meursault, and for some of the best value the world of wine has to offer in their Maconnais outfit;... Dominique Lafon has also been making his own wines for 11 years now, from vineyards he either owns or manages. The Dominique Lafon wines, produced at the Château de Bligny winery, are superb, showing the value of Dominique’s talent, experience and meticulous attention to detail. Simply, these are wines produced by one of the worlds greatest vinous talents. Dominique Lafon earned his stripes at the helm of one of the most revered domaines in the Côte d'Or, so when his name and that of his home of Meursault convene on the same label, Burgundy-lover take note. Creamy, minerally and with superb energy, this is excellent Meursault.

2020 Domaine Gerard Thomas, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru, Les Murgers des Dents de Chien 12x75cl

The piles of stones that give this vineyard its name are less common these days but can still be found on this imposing hillside adjacent to some of the best vineyards in neighbouring Puligny. From a... vineyard a stone’s throw from Le Montrachet, this is richly textured with a great purity of fruit that manages to balance a precise lemon freshness on the nose with a creamy mineral finish on the palate. It is both hugely satisfying and eminently elegant.

2020 Domaine Gerard Thomas, Saint-Aubin, Champ Tirant 12x75cl

This single vineyard St Aubin is a real treat. It is a fresh, buttery citrus mouthful with a lovely racing acidity. It is very refreshing and joyful is a superb example of village St Aubin at it best.

2020 Domaine des Malandes, Chablis Grand Cru, Les Clos 6x75cl

André and Gabrielle Tremblay harvested their first grapes in the Fourchaume vineyard in 1949. They passed on what is now Domaine des Malandes to their daughter, who in turn bequeathed the estate to... her children Richard and Amandine, who are now at the helm of this excellent Domaine. The wines here shine in the 2020 vintage, and manage to combine the minerality, precision and classicality of traditional Chablis, with a touch more roundness, expression and generosity. The Premiers and Grands Crus are a beacon of quality. Often considered a candidate for the greatest Grand Cru vineyard of all, Les Clos typically produces some of the longest-lived wines from the commune, and this example, made from 50-year-old vines, certainly exhibits all the qualities it needs to evolve gracefully for the next decade at least.

2020 Jean-Marc Pillot, Puligny-Montrachet, Noyer Bret 6x75cl

A truly brilliant winemaking force and winemaker very dear to the heart of Mr.Wheeler; Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot is one of the very best sources of fine Burgundy. Whilst his reds clearly demonstrate... why Chassagne first established its reputation as a red wine commune, Jean-Marc’s whites are seductive and richly-textured with superb precision, opened aromatics and flawless balance. From modest Santenay and St Romain to the exalted Chevalier-Montrachet, there is also something to suit all budgets – only one thing is certain: we all need one (or three) of Jean-Marc’s wines in our Burgundy selection. Located at the south-eastern edge of Puligny, the Noyers Brets vineyard is widely recognised as producing some of the best “village” wine in the region. Its limestone and clay soils give great weight and minerality, and in this vintage it is no exception. Classic, serious, with a typical buttery richness that is tempered by the tropical overtones of pineapple and lime. A few good years in the cellar are highly recommended for the 2020 and promise optimum drinking pleasure.

2020 Benjamin Leroux, Auxey-Duresses, Blanc 6x75cl

VM87-89
Benjamin has been a good friend of ours since his days at Comte Armand, and his powerful, impressive winemaking style shines through in 2020 where concentration meets with backbone and guile in the... Volnay commune. He remembers his first ever visit to the UK back in 1999 where he spent some time staying with Richard Wheeler (Johnny's father, sadly passed away last year), memorable not least for the friendly dispute regarding the relative merits of local Mersea native Oysters versus their French counterparts! Benjamin’s Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans reflects the greatest attributes of this excellent vintage. Density, richness and structure are all to the fore in a cuvée which gets better with every passing vintage. With demand (and therefore prices) for St Aubin skyrocketing in recent years, Auxey-Duresses has replaced it as one of the best sources of value whites with more than a passing resemblance to the hallowed communes on the other side of the hill. Once again, Benjamin's hand is plain to see through this wonderfully fresh white of great textural interest - one to drink over the next 3 to 5 years, and a brilliant alternative to the classic styles.

2020 Sylvain Bzikot, Meursault 12x75cl

A new addition to our portfolio last year, Sylvain Bzikot is at the head of the estate painstakingly assembled one parcel at a time by his grandparents in the 1940s, after a few years spent working... in the fields upon their arrival from Poland. Now consisting of an impressive 15 hectares, this Domaine is an excellent source of barrel-fermented Puligny-Montrachet with great typicity, at a very competitive price. Ignore at your peril! Here is a 2020 Meursault that is broad, full-bodied, with impressively ample mouthfill, and one Sylvain produced as unapologetically powerful. A traditional Meursault that will particularly please fans of fully-sized Côte d'Or whites.

2020 Benjamin Leroux, Bourgogne, Blanc 6x75cl

VM85-87
In this cuvée, Benjamin masterfully blends fruit from mostly Meursault, with some higher altitude chardonnay from the hills above Beaune which adds precision and finesse to this Bourgogne Blanc of unbeatable value. Large, old oak fermenting vessels and lees ageing help keep this wine remarkably fresh and elegant.

A classy Côte d'Or white crafted by one of the most celebrated names in the region, and at a sensationally attractive price point. Here’s a wine of stunning value -- one not to be missed.

2020 Patrick Javillier, Bourgogne, Forgets Blanc 12x75cl

In contrast to its sister “Oligocène”, Les Forgets comes from vines grown on clay soils – and this difference in terroir is very clear. There is more immediate richness to the fruit, but it... still retains the laser-like precision and butterscotch notes that make Javillier’s wines so enticing. A tasting of the 2019 vintage whilst at the property in November showed what another year in bottle can do – it is simply delicious. The 2020 is undoubtedly one to enjoy when it arrives, but there will certainly be no rush.

2020 Domaine Morey Coffinet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Houilleres 6x75cl

We discovered the wines of this Chassagne-Montrachet rising star (established in its current form "only" 30 years ago, although the family cellars date from the 16th century) for the first time in... 2020, and although we were immediately impressed by the portfolio of great vineyards the Morey family cultivate, it was upon tasting the wines with Thibault Morey that we fell in love with them. The estate is run according to biodynamic principles throughout. Thibault is one of the new generation of winemakers who, through precise, rigorous work and an open mind not only to traditional and modern techniques but also to different expressions of the Burgundy terroirs, produce truly exciting wines. These are wines that combine richness and power with complexity and elegance effortlessly, and they come highly recommended. With a superb intensity of citrus fruit dominating its core, this village cuvée shows particularly impressive balance and body: round, rich, long and a gorgeously seductive fruit profile that finishes very cleanly and in great freshness. This lieu-dit greatly impressed us last year; in 2020, Thibault has very much upped the ante.

2020 Domaine des Malandes, Chablis Premier Cru, Vau de Vey 6x75cl

VM90
Always a very approachable premier cru, Vau de Vey in 2020 shows delicious citrus peel and green apple, with a lovely richness to the mid-palate and a long, pithy finish. An excellent example from the village, and great value to boot.
