2018 Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz Eden Valley 3x75cl
DE99
"The 60th anniversary of Australia's most famous single-vineyard wine, whose oldest contributing patch – the 0.56ha Grandfathers – was planted an incredible 160 years ago. There can't be many... wines whose inaugural vintage came from 100-year-old vines! As always, it's a powerful, muscular wine built for the long haul, showcasing silky but structured tannins, fresh acidity, and concentrated, complex yet graceful flavours of ripe blackberry and boysenberry, lighter red and blue fruits, earthy beetroot, peppery cured meat and an exotic, herbal incense note. Named for the Gnadenberg Lutheran church which stands opposite the vineyard, itself named for the region in Silesia from which Johann Christian Henschke emigrated in 1841."

RP91
"Tasted at the Batailley vertical tasting at the château, the 2003 Batailley continues to be one of the better Left Banks of the vintage. On the nose, ripe black cherries mixed with cassis are all... nicely defined and holding on to their freshness. It manifests spicy aromas, almost Moroccan-inspired, as it gradually opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with dense black fruit, a little tarry in texture with firm tannin considering that it is now 12 years old. You could broach this Pauillac now, but it should give another 10-12 years of pleasure without too much difficulty. Tasted April 2016." 91 pts, Neal Martin, www.robertparker.com

"The 2016 Warre.s Vintage Port was picked from 19 September, the harvest took 10 days longer than usual in order to gain optimal ripeness. II has a tightly-wound but compelling bouquet with intense... block fruit laced with clove, nutmeg and touches of smoke. This is a Warre.s with great precision and detail. The palate is sheer class: saturated ripe tannin that belie the structure underneath. There is a symmetry about this Vintage Port and a tension that keeps you returning for more. Wow. This is one of the finest Warre's that I have tasted at declaration. Bravo! Production is 4,250 cases." 94 pts., Neal Martin, vinous.com

"Dense and heady on the nose with an attractive green, leafy edge. Sweet and pump on the palate with lovely bright cherry and damson fruit – nicely defined but not as big as some. Firm, tight-knit tannins on a long, linear finish which shows off the lovely purity of fruit. 6,500 cases in total." 96 pts., Richard Mayson, decanter.com

"The 2016 Graham's Vintage Port is inky black in colour. The bouquet is voluminous and intense, the aromas almost shrouding your head! Blackberry, black olive, clove and a touch of smoke, just a hint... of pencil box in the background. The palate is brilliant, quite brilliant. Supple tannin, a satin-like texture, perfect balance and unerring purity, this is a fabulous Graham's that effortlessly fans out and caresses the senses on the finish. This Graham's has huge potential and is going to give a lot of pleasure for many years." 96 pts., Neal Martin, vinous.com

"The epitome of elegance with its sheen of silky, pure red fruits and lissome acidity, in 2017 this Eden Valley Shiraz is closer to Adelaide Hills geographically and in spirit. Medium-bodied, the... beguiling strawberry and plum palate is delicately scented with pink peppercorn, coltsfoot, pine needle and black pepper. Subtle undertones of moss, twig and wattleseed draw you in further. Drinking beautifully now, with soft grainy tannins to the finish and lingering spice. "

RP94-96
"Opening with dramatic color, this adds violets on the nose. It retains elegance while seeming subtly concentrated rather than jammy. Then, it finishes with pop and controlled power. For those who... remember the powerhouse Dows in the past, that's not quite this for the most part. It is an accessible and elegant Dow, relatively speaking. Charles Symington said that the higher proportion of Touriga Franca compared to some years contributed to that. That said, this still has the structure to age and develop. It seems wonderfully fresh and lifted all the while, but it's neither rich, nor intense nor austere. This is a Dow that still needs some time to become more expressive and complex, though. There were 5,250 cases produced." 94-96 pts., Mark Squires, robertparker.com

VM89-91
Holding fast to Gevrey's famous structural character, Sylvie's village Gevrey-Chambertin takes on bolder dimensions this year. Alongside the classic notions of summer pudding, raspberry compote and... cranberry aromatics come more intense notions of black cherry and spiced plum. There is exotic spice, cinnamon and all-spice and even a hint of mocca, too. Generous and giving with succulent red berry flavours, there is exquisite freshness and structure which help foil this village wine par excellence.
£270 / Case£45 / BottleDuty Status: In BondAvailability: Immediate2018 Sylvie Esmonin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vieillles Vignes 6x75cl
"The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is matured in 50% new oak with 60% whole-bunch fruit. I actually like the definition on the nose, which is intense but shows decent clarity, offering... copious dark cherries, marmalade and blueberry aromas. The fresh palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, delivering dark cherry and black currant fruit laced with blood orange and white pepper and coming across quite citric on the finish. Good potential."90-92, Neal Martin,

"The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, matured in 40% new oak with 40% whole bunch, has an intense bouquet of black cherries, iodine and blueberry aromas that burst from the glass. The intense palate... is medium-bodied with supple tannins, blood-orange-infused red fruit and a touch of pain d’épices and black pepper toward the finish. Fine." 90-92, Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

"Harvested at ripe 15% potential alcohol, the golden-yellow 2015 Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos Saint Urbain shows the purity and flintiness of its terroir combined with an unreal freshness for the... 2015 vintage. On the palate this wine is exploding with tension. It is lush and vibrant, round and structure." 94-95 pts., Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com

RP92-94
"The luxury cuvee, the 2013 Le Plus de la Fleur de Bouard, is a limited production from what is considered to be the best parcel in the vineyard. This 100% Merlot reveals unreal concentration as well... as an opaque blue/purple color, and abundant notes of blueberry liqueur, lead pencil shavings, violets, black currants and black cherries. Deep, opulent and voluptuously textured, this is a candidate for the wine of the vintage. It should drink well for 10-15 years, perhaps longer. It may be hard for readers to believe these two Lalande de Pomerols are better than many first-growths, but they are." 92-94 pts., Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com
£300 / Case£50 / BottleDuty Status: In BondAvailability: Immediate2012 Prunotto, Barolo, Bussia Colonnello Riserva 6x75cl
"The 2012 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello is an intriguing wine. Whole clusters add an exotic element of perfume to the Nebbiolo fruit in this expressive, highly nuanced Barolo. Orange peel,... mint, sage and pine overtones all emerge with time in the glass. Understated and also persistent, the 2012 has quite a bit of personality." Antonio Galloni, vinous.com

"The 2005 Cos d'Estournel is blended of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet colored, it is still a little closed and youthfully shy. With coaxing, the nose is just... beginning to offer glimpses at vivacious kirsch, red roses, violets, licorice and mocha scents over a crème de cassis, blackberry pie and chocolate-covered cherry core with wafts of chargrill, mossy bark and truffles. Full-bodied, concentrated and wonderfully complex in the mouth, the palate is just beginning to reveal the true potential of this wine, with tightly wound layers of perfumed black fruits and earthy notions bound by a rock-solid frame of firm, grainy tannins and finishing with epic persistence. This still needs 5-6 years, but I love how this beauty is shaping up!!" 98 pts., Lisa Perrotti -Brown, robertparker.com

An altogether fuller-bodied, yet even more red fruit-dominated cuvée than the Bourgogne Rouge, Sylvie's Côte de Nuits villages is a poised, structured and balanced style of Burgundy that will age well - and indeed will require just a little patience, requiring a good 7 to 8 years to reach its drinking window where it should stay for another 7 years or so.

The 2018 Batailley, matured in 60% new oak, is almost identical on the nose as I found it in barrel, decked out with attractive black cherries and cassis notes, the cedar element a little heightened... and freshly rolled tobacco notes developing with aeration. Very fine delineation here, and the oak is well integrated. The balanced palate offers fine tannins that frame the blackberry and bilberry fruit. The salinity comes through nicely on the finish, which is less silky than before, but it waves adieu with a long spicy aftertaste. Very fine and very Batailley. 93 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

"Brilliant ruby. Spice-tinged red/blue fruits, succulent flowers and smoky minerals on the highly perfumed nose. Juicy and seamless on the palate, offering concentrated boysenberry and bitter cherry... flavors that become sweeter on the bock half. The dark berry note lingers strongly on the spicy, sharply focused finish, which is shaped by smooth, even tannins. " 92 pts., Josh Raynolds, vinous.com

"Hung deli meat, star anise and blackberry adorn the nose of the 2017 Mount Edelstone Vineyard Shiraz. Discerning this is akin to peering over the counter at an Italian deli, with meat, cheeses and... garlic hanging from the ceiling: it's enveloping and welcome. On the palate, the wine is bright and concentrated, with layers of salted blueberry, licorice and staunch (yet fine) tannins. It has flexibility and pliability, but it also has shape and form—all of it encased in a medium-bodied shell. It is savory and lean above all else, with bacon fat adorning all edges." 95+ pts., Erin Larkin, robertparker.com

"The 2016 Mount Edelstone Vineyard Shiraz is steeped in complexity, with aromas ranging from camphor, bay leaf and sage to smoke and grilled beef and from blueberries and blackberries to plums laced... with spice. Full-bodied, rich and intense, it's ripe and velvety textured, with a long, licorice-tinged finish and dusty tannins that bode well for the cellar. From vines planted in 1912, I suspect this will come close to the quality of the Hill of Grace at a fraction of the price. Tasted again the following day from the open bottle, this was even better, seamless, flowing and harmonious in the mouth." 96 pts., Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com

VM87-89
The 2020 Chablis Village comes from 50 different plots around 50 years old, the majority planted at the end of the 1960s. The simple but well-defined bouquet of Granny Smith apples is light and airy.... The palate is crisp and taut with citrus lemon and saline notes. Very citric on the finish, and not long, but it conveys satisfying energy at this level.

"Bright ruby colour with a light orange hue. Delicate fragrances of violets, aromatic herbs, dark fruit and sweet spice are intriguing and refined. Composed and finely structured the palate... replicates the
complexity of the bouquet. Silky tannins and a bright acidity lead to a lengthy finale. A Barolo of superb austerity and elegance." Enzo Boglietti Tasting Note
