2017 Bollinger, PN TX17, Champagne 6x75cl

WP94
“The wine is almost completely dominated by the extremely exciting and rare Tauxières Premier Cru, which is one of two villages classified 99% on the Grand Cru scale. Despite an impressive... vineyard area of 237 hectares, it is extremely rare to come across champagnes dominated by this fantastic Cru. A cooler microclimate and a thinner soil layer with even more compact chalk than sunny Bouzy make the wines from here lighter and more elegant than Bouzy but stronger than Verzenay which is also part of this exciting Blanc de Noirs with predominantly base from 2017. Here is also a small splash of Avenay to give a little buttery roundness to the cuvée with its low dosage of 4 grams. The reserve wines that always come from magnum bottles under low pressure make up 48% from three vintages in 2016, 2009 and 2006. In total, half of the wine is made in oak barrels and the other half in steel tanks. The result is very beautiful and personal. The scent has features of lead pencil, juniper and freshly lacquered boat together with more classic coffee notes, rose petals, apricot and peach. The taste is vivid and multifaceted with a lively precision, lighter fruit aromas than you normally find in Bollinger's wines. Even cassis is one of the more unexpected aromas in this finely tuned complex symphony. Very impressive and exciting champagne that really makes me want to taste more and that I will look out for to my private cellar.” 92-94 pts Richard Juhlin

2021 Chateau Lafite Rothschild Premier Cru Classe, Pauillac 6x75cl

DE97
"Surely a contender for wine of the vintage, certainly on the Left Bank. Vibrant and explosive, what a wine in 2021. Graphite, black chocolate, black pepper and blackcurrant aromas but also with... floral edges - so intense! Supple and racy on the palate, this is a firecracker of a Lafite, so much energy and acidity that you get this rush of red and black fruits then the stoney minerality and then the spice. It's sharp and racy with the length that goes on and on. You get it all here but so well delivered, real refinement and elegance in terms of fruit precision and clarity but it's just so energetic and bright. This puts you squarely in Bordeaux with the lively and balanced freshness with these gorgeous powerful and structured Cabernet aspects telling you it's from Pauillac, ending with liquorice, stone, graphite and toasted spice from the one block of old-vine Petit Verdot that went into the blend this year. Vibrant and explosive - an absolute thoroughbred - albeit a young one! Made with 96% Cabernet as opposed to a usual amount between 80-85%. A yield of 33hl/ha. The first year of full organic farming also in 2021." 97 pts., Georgina Hindle, decanter.com

"Gorgeous deep pink purple rim to the glass. The nose is bright and intense, heady with perfumed aromatics and edges of graphite, cocoa and sweet red cherries. Such clarity on the palate, excellent... tension from the get go with beautifully expressed cherry and strawberry fruit that has a soft, ripe fleshy core. The tannins are fine but plentiful, coating the mouth providing the structure and frame. This has such a sense of quiet confidence - it's not shouting so much but gently showing off its many layers of fruit, acidity, minerality and freshness. This really grows on you, expanding and deepening as the flavours travel across the palate, coming in waves. Understated and introverted at the moment but still harmonious and classy. I love it." 96 pts., Georgina Hindle, decanter.com

“The 2021 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, picked September 13–23 at 40hL/ha, has a captivating, complex bouquet of yellow flowers, white peach, wet limestone and just a faint hint of elderflower in... the background. The taut palate is well-balanced with a superb line of acidity. Conveying tangible energy from start to finish, this builds in the mouth toward a persistent finish that fans out gloriously. One of the best Domaine de Chevalier whites that I have tasted in 20-plus years.” 95-97, Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2021 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux, Margaux 3x75cl

"Soft rose-touched blackcurrants, really quite delicate and pretty yet also expressive, the aromas clearly discernible in the glass with a vivid pink-purple rim. So smooth and quite sensuous, you get... the crushed velvet texture and thrashing acidity straight away, giving a round mouth, with these spikes of piquancy from the Petit Verdot. Really quite perfumed too. Vibrant with an excellent aromatic display and so much freshness. It’s on the tightrope - balancing the austerity and the plushness, the richness and the delicacy, the acidity and the structure. Tastes young and sparky, like a racing car ready to go, all energetic and buzzed. A great second wine. 4% Cabernet Franc completes the blend."

2020 Hubert Lamy, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru, En Remilly Blanc 6x75cl

Olivier Lamy runs what is widely considered the finest estate in Saint-Aubin, and indeed one of the finest in the Côte d'Or. The wines here frequently put to shame Puligny or Chassagne at twice the... price. Clearly one of Burgundy’s greatest talents, Olivier’s overriding pursuit of excellence in the vineyard, and of purity and definition in each and every cuvée yields wines of scintillating freshness, brilliant terroir expression and superb age worthiness. A Domaine to follow year in, year out, and in scintillating form once again. Absolutely glorious. Rich, powerful and, as always with Olivier’s wines, intensely mineral on the finish, this year En Rémilly is simply mind-blowingly good with its gently building power, absolute fruit purity and long, long finish, driven by the spine of ripe citrussy acid. Almost no bâtonnage, no new oak, no SO2 – Olivier decided to let the fruit express itself – it clearly had lots to say.

2020 Hubert Lamy, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru, Saint Aubin Clos Meix Blanc 6x75cl

Olivier Lamy runs what is widely considered the finest estate in Saint-Aubin, and indeed one of the finest in the Côte d'Or. A Domaine to follow year in, year out, and in scintillating form once again. Always one of the more instantly enjoyable cuvées here, in 2020 Clos de Meix is no exception, with pretty white flower and juicy citrus notes dominating the palate, yet as can be expected of one of Olivier’s wines, on the finish it moves on to much more minerally and savoury, spicy notes. One for earlier enjoyment for sure, but it will deliver on complexity all the same.

2021 Chateau Canon Premier Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

DE94-96
"Dark chocolate, perfume, violets, wild flowers and bramble berries on the nose, so much going on aromatically. Lovely succulence straight away, the bright acidity giving a mouthwatering effect and... really delivering in terms of vibrant and lively fruit forwardness but with these lovely edges of graphite, slate, bitter chocolate, cream and salinity. So elegant and so refined as well as super stylish. I also love the cooling menthol Cabernet aspects you get all the way through and on the long finish. This has real class, but also an effortless quality to it that is so remarkable. One of the most memorable wines of the vintage! 3.37pH. Both Canon, Rauzan-Segla and Berliquet are excellent achievements this year." 96 pts., Georgina Hindle, decanter.com

2017 Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz Eden Valley 3x75cl

"The original circa-1860 plantings are supplemented by centenarian vines and some other old vines (at least 35 years of age), but all on their own roots from the original vineyard. Despite massive... expectations and perhaps a more challenging vintage, the 2017 Hill of Grace Shiraz doesn't disappoint, delivering ample weight, richness and expansiveness on the palate, coupled with impressive structure and length. Complex scents of camphor, raspberries and mulberries appear on the nose, alongside hints of sage, black olives and licorice, while the tannic, softly dusty finish lingers, suggesting plenty of longevity—20-plus years should be no problem for this beauty." 2020 Philippe Livera (Tilleuls), Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 6x75cl

*ON ALLOCATION - £1150 per case of 6 bottles IB* A new find for Mr.Wheeler in the 2019 vintage and one we are pleased to follow since then; Domaine Livera is widely considered the “next Burgundian... star” tellingly both by consumers of their exceptional wines together with their winemaking contemporaries. The Livera family have been settled on the Domaine for almost 100 years, but Damien, who has been in charge for 13 years now, has taken the wines to a different level altogether. His style is one of purity, precision of fruit and impressive depth, quite reminiscent of the wines produced by Arnaud Mortet (who is a close friend and advisor). This is an up-and-coming address and very much one to watch. Such a complete wine the Domaine Livera Chapelle-Chambertin. Mind-blowingly powerful yet ever so precise, seamless harmony even at this early stage, and a finish that unfurls layer upon layer of flavour: notes of violets and raspberry, followed by cherry then more savoury hints of winter spice and an almost umami finish. Impossibly delicious.

2020 Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM93-95
"The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru was very closed on the nose despite encouragement. This feels very introverted. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, more expressive... here in the mouth than on the nose with black pepper, bay leaf and clove towards the finish. Give this a few years in bottle and wait for the aromatics to blossom." 93-95 pts, Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2020 Comte Armand, Auxey-Duresses, Rouge 6x75cl

VM87-89
*ON ALLOCATION - £228 per case of 6 bottles IB* One of the very finest producers in all of Burgundy, Domaine du Comte Armand is approaching its 200th anniversary very much at the top of its game.... After Pascal Marchant from 1985 to 1998, Benjamin Leroux from 1999 to 2013, Paul Zinetti is the third highly talented winemaker at the helm of this grand estate, and he is producing wines of rare depth, purity and character. The monumental Clos des Epeneaux, for a long time the only wine produced here, still gives the best Grands Crus a run for their money, but just as impressive is the unbeatable value delivered by the Auxey-Duresses cuvées and the delicacy and perfume of the Volnays. You can't go wrong at this address.

2020 Domaine Albert Bichot (Long-Depaquit), Chablis Grand Cru, Moutonne 6x75cl

*ON ALLOCATION - £570 per case of 6 bottles IB* Domaine Long-Depaquit can be traced back to 1791 when Jean Depaquit and his brother Simon moved to Chablis. They purchased vineyards and developed... their domaine into one of the most renowned producers of Chablis today. Now owned by Albert Bichot in Beaune, Domaine Long-Depaquit offers an impressive range of Premier and Grand Crus. A sustainable approach, limited yields and skilful winemaking creates incredibly invigorating and mineral-edged wines. ‘La Moutonne’, a monopole in the heart of the Grand Cru vineyards, between Vaudésir and Les Preuses is one of their most celebrated cuvées, known for its incredible precision, elegance and staying power. Whichever cuvée you choose, these are delicious, mineral rich Chardonnays of the highest order. Opening the proceedings at a Bichot tasting in London, the 2020 La Moutonne quite simply blew us away. Crushed oyster shell and citrus on the nose, followed on the palate by a superb energy with an exquisite texture. Laser-like, yet with excellent weight and power on the long finish, this is very, very special.

2020 Patrick Javillier, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 6x75cl

*ON ALLOCATION - £675 per case of 6 bottles IB* Undoubtedly the jewel in the Domaine’s crown, Javillier’s Corton-Charlemagne comes from a tiny climat called Les Pougets, on the hill of Corton.... It is undeniably rich and powerful, but with an underlying restraint that will be shaken off with time. There are ripe apple notes and a layered complexity with hints of hazelnut. When coupled with its incredible fineness and steely dry backbone, this is a most wonderful wine that will become an absolute classic. Outstanding – and great value when compared to other Côtes d’Or Grand Cru.
