2018 Michele Chiarlo, Barolo, Cerequio 6x75cl

DE96
“Coffee, cola cubes, cherries and sweet cinnamon - such a gorgeous smell of Barolo. Smooth, delicate and refined with lifted acidity giving this such supreme drinking pleasure with subtle hints of... toasted sweet spice, dried herbs, floral scents and bright red fruits. Succulent and so joyous, the mouthwatering acidity is excellent and the overall impression is so detailed and nuanced. Careful and controlled with layers of elegant flavour. Really very good with brilliant Barolo signature. Still so fresh and expansive on the finish. Fermentation in 55l oak vats for 20 days with skins, minimum of three years' ageing; two in oak casks, one in bottle.” 96 pts. Georgina Hindle, decanter.com

2019 Wynns, Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label, Coonawarra 6x75cl

DE95JR17.5
“The 64th vintage of this wine, and everything about this is magnificent. It is desperately classy and much more grand, seasoned and noble than expected. Bygone vintages have tended to err on the... muscular side of the tracks, but not anymore. This is a thoroughly civilised Cabernet with a finely tuned alcohol level, expressive, refreshing fruit and a heroically long finish.” 95 pts., Matthew Jukes, decanter.com.

2003 Chateau Musar, Red 6x75cl

VM92
“The 2003 Chateau Musar is a very pretty, aromatic wine. Rosewater, dried flowers, orange peel and cinnamon all open up in the bouquet. The 2003 is an attractive, translucent Musar that should... drink well for another decade or more. Ripe red cherry, kirsch, hard candy and mint linger. The 2003 opens up nicely, but remains a decidedly delicate in build.” Drink 2020-2028. 92 pts., Antonio Galloni, vinous.com

2004 Chateau Musar, Red 6x75cl

DE91
“A beautiful development of mature red cherries, plums and sweet spice, showing more concentration than the average Musar, but it is still restrained. The weighty palate is moreish, showing the... richness of fruit with a tight structure of tannins. Overall it's a more robust style, yet seductive and refined too.” Drink 2017-2025.91 pts., Christine Guibert, decanter.com.

2010 Chateau Musar, Red 6x75cl

JR18
“Bright ruby. Heady, rich and gamey on the nose. Very hedonistic and accessible on the nose with real density and lifted slight gaminess. An attractive singed character on top of very ripe fruit.... Great balance and freshness (but not excessive acidity) on the finish. Very neat on the end. Something rather wild and Romany about this. Already accessible even if I'm sure it will develop even more complex tertiary aromas.” 18 pts., Jancis Robinson

2018 Chateau Musar, Red 6x75cl

“The 2018 vintage has a deep garnet colour in the glass with dried cherries and mature red fruits on the nose. The palate is rich and concentrated with cranberries, raisins, and dates; there is... good acidity with fine tannins. It has an enticing smoky, dusty fruit with soft liquorice undertones and at 6 years of age upon release, it is already developed and mature.” (Chateau Musar)

2020 Chateau Quintus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

DE93
"Exuberant and confident, with powerful damson and black cherry fruit flavours on the nose. Chocolate and liquorice run through the palate from beginning to end, and this is full of signature... St-Emilion glamour. It has a round and supple texture through the mid palate, but the alcohol hides some of the limestone nuance at this point - it will no doubt emerge more clearly with 8 to 10 years in bottle." 2020 Chateau Saint-Pierre 4eme Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 6x75cl

DE94
"This is excellent, really the most gorgeous balance of power, with dark blueberry juicy fruits and lots of liquorice. Excellent balance and a seductive overall frame. Great stuff - the tannins are pretty fierce though, needs time, will reward ageing." 94 pts., Jane Anson, decanter.com

2020 Chateau Berliquet Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM88-90
"The 2020 Berliquet has an open, quite generous bouquet of high-toned, quite floral aromas (iris and violet petals) mixed with Dorset plum, bilberry and wild strawberry. The palate is medium-bodied... with a medicinal, menthol-tinged opening, ripe and again, generous. The candied finish just needs to show a little more restraint. Fine, but it will have to manifest more elegance and composure by the time of bottling. Perhaps it was unfair to pour this against the 2020 Canon, also owned by the Wertheimer family, but it highlighted the difference between their respective terroirs." 88-90 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2019 Yann Chave, Hermitage 6x75cl

VM94-96
"A complex bouquet evokes ripe blackberry, cherry compote, licorice and violet, energized by a spicy cracked pepper nuance. Broad and fleshy in the mouth, offering densely packed, smoke-tinged... black/blue fruit, exotic spice and floral pastille flavors that pick up a minerally nuance as the wine opens up. Shows superb delineation and spicy lift on a long, silky finish framed by steadily building tannins. There were five demi-rnuids of this wine in 2019, all of them new." 94-96, Josh Raynolds, www.vinous.com

2019 Chateau Berliquet Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM92
"The 2019 Berliquet has a refined bouquet of lifted dried iris petal scents mingling with blackberry and wild strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins and fleshy red berry... fruit laced with tobacco and Chinese five-spice, and very well proportioned and detailed on the finish. Sophisticated. Tasted twice." 91 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2020 Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini, Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru, Les Millandes 6x75cl

JM91-94JR16
This wine comes from a great vineyard scattered with small stones and abutting the grand cru of Mazis-Chambertin. It creates a very elegant and dynamic wine with delicious layers of morello cherry and fresh herbs that are tempered by a delightful freshness and complexity. A wonderful example to be savoured over the next 10 to 15 years.

2020 Philippe Livera (Tilleuls), Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 6x75cl

*ON ALLOCATION - £1150 per case of 6 bottles IB* A new find for Mr.Wheeler in the 2019 vintage and one we are pleased to follow since then; Domaine Livera is widely considered the “next Burgundian... star” tellingly both by consumers of their exceptional wines together with their winemaking contemporaries. The Livera family have been settled on the Domaine for almost 100 years, but Damien, who has been in charge for 13 years now, has taken the wines to a different level altogether. His style is one of purity, precision of fruit and impressive depth, quite reminiscent of the wines produced by Arnaud Mortet (who is a close friend and advisor). This is an up-and-coming address and very much one to watch. Such a complete wine the Domaine Livera Chapelle-Chambertin. Mind-blowingly powerful yet ever so precise, seamless harmony even at this early stage, and a finish that unfurls layer upon layer of flavour: notes of violets and raspberry, followed by cherry then more savoury hints of winter spice and an almost umami finish. Impossibly delicious.

"Delicious gorgeous purple. 100% whole bunch but smothered by the fruit. A balanced headiness if you like, and beautifully attractive. The stems add a little structure, almost some muscle to the back, which I think is valuable in these richer years." 92-95 pts., Jasper Morris MW

2012 Prunotto, Barolo, Bussia Colonnello Riserva 6x75cl

WE95
"A strong red in color with ruby highlights in color, the wine displays floral aromas of rose petals along with perfectly ripe red fruit (raspberries and pomegranates) and spicy and balsamic notes.... The flavors are intense with full, enveloping and supple tannins and a long and persistent finish and aftertaste. Its solid structure and firm body are an excellent match with meat and game dishes and with cheese." - tasting notes from Prunotto The Bussia cru is one of the most prestigious locations in the township of Monforte, the heart of the Barolo area. Within the confines of the Bussia sub-zone, Prunotto has identified a 2.5 acre plot known by local growers as “Vigna Colonnello” (“the Colonnello vineyard”). The plot enjoys a west-southwestern exposure with vines between 35 and 40 years of age. The soil consists of 25% sand, 25% clay and 50% loam. Given these special characteristics, the Colonnello fruit is fermented and aged on its own to produce a very special Barolo Riserva wine.

2019 Roc de Cambes, Cotes de Bourg 6x75cl

RP92
"The 2019 Roc de Cambes has turned out brilliantly, offering up aromas of cassis, sweet berry fruit, cigar wrapper, first floor and rich spices, followed by a full-bodied, layered, elegantly muscular... palate that's deep and concentrated, its fleshy core of fruit framed by ripe acids and ripe, powdery tannins. This is a terrific effort that may nip at the heels of the 2016. Despite its modest appellation, don't hesitate to cellar this, as Roc de Cambes is invariably better integrated and more interesting with a decade on the clock than on release." 92 pts., William Kelley, robertparker.com

2019 Chateau Tertre Roteboeuf, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

RP97
"The 2019 Le Tertre Roteboeuf is a terrific success from the Mitjaville family. This amphitheatrical vineyard on the clay-limestone slopes of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, planted with low,... cordon-trained vines, has delivered a striking wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, blackberries and cherries mingled with notions of violets, cigar box, sweet spices and loamy soil. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a deep core of fruit, velvety tannins and lively acids, it will richly reward a decade and more of bottle age. Interestingly, proprietor François Mitjaville contended that 2019's distribution of rainfall had tended to invert the usual stylistic distinction between Tertre Roteboeuf and Roc de Cambes, his wine from the Côtes de Bourg; yet, on the day of our tasting, geology trumped weather, because as usual the former was more sensual, the latter blockier and more structured." 97 pts., William Kelley, robertparker.com

2020 Benjamin Leroux, Volnay Premier Cru, Les Mitans 6x75cl

JM88-91VM90-92
Benjamin has been a good friend of ours since his days at Comte Armand, and his powerful, impressive winemaking style shines through in 2020 where concentration meets with backbone and guile in the... Volnay commune. He remembers his first ever visit to the UK back in 1999 where he spent some time staying with Richard Wheeler (Johnny's father, sadly passed away last year), memorable not least for the friendly dispute regarding the relative merits of local Mersea native Oysters versus their French counterparts! Benjamin’s Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans reflects the greatest attributes of this excellent vintage. Density, richness and structure are all to the fore in a cuvée which gets better with every passing vintage.
