2019 San Polino, Brunello di Montalcino, Helichrysum 6x75cl

DE96
“With unimpeded views towards Monte Amiata in Montalcino’s southeast, the Helichrysum vineyards are characterised by arid, stony soil, winds from the Sahara, and significant temperature... differences between day and night. While the 2019 possesses the vintage’s – and this site’s – signature fragrance, it disperses it with measured precision. The subtle progression leads from camomile, liquorice and fennel to cocoa and tobacco. The palate is taut, compact and concentrated yet never heavy. A dark red cherry backdrop is laced with exotic spice, while tactile tannins encircle the core with a terracotta-like cling. Tuck this away for a few years.” 96 pts., Michaela Morris, decanter.com

2019 San Polino, Brunello di Montalcino 6x75cl

VM92
“From San Polino’s holdings in the northeast on loamy clay soil. Exuberantly youthful and becoming, the 2019 rings out with violet and oily balsamic herbs. It gives a midweight impression – yet... is packed with brambly fruit. An orange peel flourish is heightened by zesty acidity. And as this opens, savoury iron depths are revealed. Promising but needs to come together. Solid, clayey tannins clamp down on the finish.” 93 pts., Michaela Morris, decanter.com

2022 Le Difese, Tenuta San Guido, Toscana 6x75cl

“Bright ruby red and with a lovely ripe and aromatic hedgerow fruit nose, accompanied by a whiff of cassis and vanilla to round things off. Beautifully balance fruit and tannins already, and a... crisp underlying acidity to provide the underpinning for medium term ageing. The cabernet sauvignon in the blend takes you down the Bordeaux route, but there is always a question mark raised by the sangiovese as to where in Italy it sits. No matter - this is the best of both classic varieties expressed through its Tuscan terroir. Really lovely”. Drink 2026 to 2035 Mr Wheeler.

2021 Sassicaia, Tenuta San Guido, Bolgheri 6x75cl

RP100
"Here it is: A quintessential Sassicaia that represents the excellence of the vintage and also respects the unique taste profile of this distinguished Tuscan blend of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc.... The Tenuta San Guido 2021 Bolgheri Sassicaia offers impeccable balance, excellent freshness and absolutely no signs of over-ripeness. The fruit balance is ideal with a hint of crunch and lasting tension from pulp and skins. The tannins are deftly managed with firm grip and enough velvetiness to add volume and length. There is no greenness on the bouquet that instead offers mulled herbs and spice, with cinnamon and clove, layered delicately between mostly red and some purple berry fruits. Redcurrant, blueberry, sweet pomegranate and Rainier cherry run strong in this vintage. A fragrant hint of heritage rose emerges with time. The oak tones are geared toward gingerbread, hazelnut, cigar, sandalwood and something like a grilled sweet red pepper. To the palate, it offers nice weight with no heavy glycerin, and a rinse of acidity that adds to the wine’s natural energy, brightness and viscosity. That marked freshness opens the wine up to long aging potential, but you still need to give it more time in bottle." 100 pts., Monica Larner, robertparker.com

2018 Castellare di Castellina, Sodi San Niccolo, IGT 6x75cl

WS96
"Lovely abundance and expression on the nose, you get that perfect clarity of fruit - black fruits and blackcurrant laced with violets. Strong, round and rich - this is densely concentrated with... power and punch. Gorgeous texture - dry with firm firm tannins and a direct fruit profile - tension and linearity yet there's plushness and ripeness here too. It's round yet direct but also sweet and succulent. I love that immediately juicy perfumed hit you get on the tongue, such brightness and energy here, the sweet red cherry edge is so delicious. Supremely charming but also fun, such playfulness going on with the flavours and the textures." 96 pts., Georgina Hindle, www.decanter.com

2021 Guidalberto, Tenuta San Guido, Toscana 6x75cl

“The 2021 Guidalberto, San Guido's blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is soft, succulent and alluring right out of the gate. The supple contours of Merlot lend fleshiness to this mid-weight,... racy Maremma blend. Ripe red cherry fruit, spice, leather and tobacco are nicely pushed forward. Best of all, the 2021 will drink well right out of the gate.” 93 points, Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com

2018 Il Poggione, Brunello di Montalcino 6x75cl

VM96+
"Impressive from the first tilt of the glass, the 2018 Brunello makes it a heady burst of exotic spice and crushed ashen stone giving way to black dried cherries and grilled herbs. This combines the... energy of the vintage with the dark balsamic tinged fruits from Montalcino’s southern reaches as zesty acidity maintains balance throughout, and flinty minerals saturated towards the close. It finishes long, long and structured, yet its tannins are more rounded than anticipated, creating a classic feel, but also a mouth watering sensation that tricks the taster back for more. Easily one of the top wines of the vintage, the 2018 is not to be missed." Drink 2026-2036 96+ points, Eric Guido, www.vinous.com

2018 Enzo Boglietti, Barolo, Brunate 6x75cl

JR16.5
Bright ruby colour with an orange hue. Plentiful aromatics of cherry, violet, tobacco and liquorice. The palate delivers the same exuberance of the bouquet and shows an abundance of fine,... ripe tannins. Balanced and harmoniously structured has a long and and vibrant finish. The silty clay soil with little organic matter is responsible for the powerful yet austere structure, the large clay patches give the complexity of flavours and aromas.

2018 Enzo Boglietti, Barolo, Case Nere 6x75cl

Bright ruby colour. Alluring aromatics of red fruit, liquorice and some mineral notes. Classically structured with an exquisite density, the tannins are beautifully evident but fine and very pleasant. The clay portion of the soil is responsible for the robust structure while the clay patches provide for the freshness and balance of aromas.

2019 Prunotto, Barbaresco Secondine 6x75cl

VM92
"The 2019 Barbaresco Secondine is a classy, elegant wine. Sweet perfumed aromatics meld into a core of sweet red cherry fruit, pine, spice, menthol, licorice and tobacco. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2019 has plenty of depth and tons of complexity to match. This is a fine showing." 92 pts., Antonio Galloni, vinous.com

2016 San Polino, Brunello di Montalcino, Riserva 6x75cl

"The purity and polish here shows wonderfully the moment you stick your nose in the glass, with complex aromas of plums, berries, cedar and violets. It’s full-bodied and ever so refined with... elegant and intense tannins that take you deep into the wine. This is a thoughtful and finely crafted Brunello that needs time to show you its greatness. 2017 Gianni Brunelli, Brunello di Montalcino 6x75cl

RP96
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is beautifully bright and stitched up with extreme focus and sharpness. Sangiovese has this gorgeous ability to show linearity and lift, but it remains elegant and... tight at the same time. This wine accomplishes all of this, and that's saying a lot given the heat and drought of this vintage. The acidity is bright and the finish is long and smooth with citrusy end notes of blood orange followed by wild rose and lilac. Fruit comes from a 4.5-hectare site with sand and galestro soils. Production is exactly 15,014 bottles. Maria Laura Vacca Brunelli and her team harvested about one week early in 2017 to capture that varietal freshness." 96 pts., Monica Larner, robertparker.com

2016 Gianni Brunelli, Brunello di Montalcino, Riserva 6x75cl

RP98
"Here's a wine I am very excited to taste, given the phenomenal performance of this vintage in the annata version released last year. The Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto 2016 Brunello di... Montalcino Riserva reproduces that same brilliant intensity and deep inner brightness, only this Riserva has seen one more year of aging, and it shows more spice and thicker textural heft as a result. This wine is penetrating and layered with a harmonious playlist of red and purple fruits, spice, tar, cola, licorice and grilled herb. The tannins are more austere in the case of this 2,993-bottle release, and you'd do well to age it longer before popping the cork. I love the spontaneous radiance and energy captured by this estate, especially in 2016." 98 pts., Monica Larner, robertparker.com

"This Brunate is very complex, with smoky woodland notes, red cherry, pomegranate and liquorice aromas – a very classic signature. The attack is elegant and super-savoury, with vibrant and well... judged tannins that are extremely sweet, fragrant, and dusty yet integrated with the fruit concentration. It displays brillant acidity considering the warmth of Brunate." 95 pts., Aldo Fiordelli, decanter.com

2012 Prunotto, Barolo, Bussia Colonnello Riserva 6x75cl

WE95
"A strong red in color with ruby highlights in color, the wine displays floral aromas of rose petals along with perfectly ripe red fruit (raspberries and pomegranates) and spicy and balsamic notes.... The flavors are intense with full, enveloping and supple tannins and a long and persistent finish and aftertaste. Its solid structure and firm body are an excellent match with meat and game dishes and with cheese." - tasting notes from Prunotto The Bussia cru is one of the most prestigious locations in the township of Monforte, the heart of the Barolo area. Within the confines of the Bussia sub-zone, Prunotto has identified a 2.5 acre plot known by local growers as “Vigna Colonnello” (“the Colonnello vineyard”). The plot enjoys a west-southwestern exposure with vines between 35 and 40 years of age. The soil consists of 25% sand, 25% clay and 50% loam. Given these special characteristics, the Colonnello fruit is fermented and aged on its own to produce a very special Barolo Riserva wine.

2018 G.D. Vajra, Barolo, Bricco delle Viole 6x75cl

RP95
"The 2018 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is not super intense, but it is balanced in its own way. The wine is subdued but complete with softly yielding tannins to support an elegantly streamlined... mouthfeel. Bricco delle Viole is a high and cool growing site in Barolo at 400 to 480 meters in elevation with characteristic Sant'Agata marl soils with fossils. The wine represents a selection of fruit from over seven hectares. "Transparent pillar-box red. Powerful nose of dried something. Cherries? Rose petals? Perhaps both. Super-fresh, despite the alcohol, with such great presence in the mouth.
