2005 Enzo Boglietti, Barolo, Case Nere 6x75cl

"The 2005 Barolo Case Nere is a dark, brooding wine redolent of charred notes, tar, smoke, spices and dark fruit. This bruising, heavyweight Barolo offers tons of intensity and muscle, but the... brooding style could use a touch more elegance. Still, the wine possesses terrific harmony and plenty of personality. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025. Enzo Boglietti is a young producer on the rise. Work continues to move forward on the new cellar, and more importantly, the wines are better than ever as was evidenced by the 2006s and 2007s I tasted from barrel and this gorgeous set of 2005s. Boglietti gives his Barolos 12-18 months in French oak barrels then moves the wines into larger 15-20 hectoliter casks where they finish their aging. As new oak levels have come down the wines have gained notable expressiveness and depth that was sometimes missing in prior vintages. In 2005 Boglietti brought in part of the fruit before the rains, and part after. His 2005s are built on freshness rather than structure, and offer terrific balance. In 2005 there is no Barolo Brunate as the vineyards are undergoing replanting. Boglietti does have a Riserva in the cellar made from the best fruit in the Fossati and Case Nere vineyards. The first vintage, the 2004, will be released next year. Based on what I tasted from barrel, it is a promising wine." Antonio Galloni, www.robertparker.com

2018 Guidalberto, Tenuta San Guido, Toscana 6x75cl

"San Guido’s 2018 Guidalberto is soft, open-knit and inviting. Sweet dark cherry, cinnamon, licorice and new leather fill out the layers in an undeniably attractive Guidalberto that will drink... beautifully upon release. Finesse and elegance are the signatures. The 2018 is a terrific choice for drinking now, while some of the more powerful vintages of Guidalberto come together, or while waiting for its sibling, Sassicaia." 92, Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com

2019 Guidalberto, Tenuta San Guido, Toscana 6x75cl

JR17
"Mid ruby with a touch of sediment – a sample blend, rather than a finished wine, as with the last two release presentations. Quite reticent on the nose, just giving hints of what it’s got – a... flash of creamy vanilla, a scent of ripe, plummy, black fruit and some toasted tobacco. Full bodied, with mouth-coating but fine-grained tannins. Plump and velvety – Merlot making its presence felt here. Pretty good length too. This is embryonic and a little closed, but I think has plenty to give – an attractive Guidalberto that will reward cellaring." 17 pts., Tim Jackson MW, jancisrobinson.com

"Trademark smoky nose. Nice structure here and a bit more sweet fruit to support the powerful tannins. Nice mouth-watering acidity lifts the wine and this should age and really come into itself nicely." 17 pts., Alistair Cooper, jancisrobinson.com

2009 Enzo Boglietti, Barolo, Case Nere 6x75cl

"Good deep red. Very ripe, high-toned aromas of mocha, coffee and cocoa powder; slightly porty. Then sweet, very ripe and rather easygoing in the mouth, with a wild musky quality enlivened by notes of herbs, clove and pine needles. Fairly oaky Barolo but sweet and pliant, even silky." 90 pts., Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com

"Open-knit and friendly, this cheerful Brunello leads with cherry and blackberry. Charmingly accented by flint and pepper, the palate offers lots of crunchy, fresh acidity. 2018 Bruno Giacosa, Barolo 6x75cl

"Although 2018 was a generally generous crop in the region, due to extremely rigorous sorting in her vineyards Bruna made the decision not to release any single vineyard Barolo in 2018 vintage,... blending instead the fruit from the Falletto and Falletto Vigna Le Rocche vineyards to create this cuvée. Superbly aromatic with hints of garrigue herbs, impressively textured and concentrated core of fruit, leading on to a long, mineral-scented finish, this is a wine of superb richness and power that manages to retain rare finesse and balance." 2019 Bruno Giacosa, Barbaresco, Asili 6x75cl

"Most approachable, even at this early stage. Yet the Asili Barbaresco shows mightily impressive depth of flavour for a cuvée that is all about delicacy and elegance. No doubt this is courtesy of... the naturally limited yields of the 2019 growing season, and the fleshy texture brings a level of opulence that befits this cuvée beautifully. Pretty gorgeous stuff… " Mr Wheeler Wine Tasting Note

2018 Bibi Graetz, Testamatta, IGT 6x75cl

DE100
"Finely textured, with a nuanced perfume that fills the glass and takes you to the intense underbrush of Tuscany. Succulent and yet savoury, this has a lilting freshness that is overlaid with ripe... berry fruits, sage and white pepper spice, and clear minerality in terms of its scraping texture that makes your mouth water on the finish. Feels light and sculpted and yet has an intensity that skewers you to the spot. This is a great wine, with scope and imagination that doesn't want to let you go. Genuinely stands out among the wines of this tasting, and these are a fine array of wines. As with Colore, Bibi Graetz selects only old vines, the youngest 50 years old from five different vineyard sites across Tuscany, all farmed organically. Fermentations in open 225l barrels with natural yeasts and manual punch downs." 100 pts., Jane Anson, decanter.com
