2021 Alheit Vineyards, Cartology Bushvines, Western Cape 6x75cl

VM95
"The 2021 Cartology is a worthy follow-up to the 2020. It unfurls gradually on the nose with honeysuckle and light yellow plum and mirabelle scents, a mineral undertow that stealthily gains... prominence. The palate is very well balanced with just a killer line of acidity; Nashi pear and yellow plum commingle towards a resinous finish. After 10 minutes, it really beginning to fire on all cylinders - another magnificent Cartology. Superb." 95 pts., Neal Martin, vinous.com

2018 Domaines Barons de Rothschild & Nicolas Catena, Caro, Mendoza 6x75cl

VM95
Formed in 1999, Bodega Caro (precious in Spanish) represents a partnership between two of the wine world’s more elite profiles pursuing the supreme expression of their respective legacies and in... terms of Mendoza-based terroir. In more tangible terms, this means producing and blending the purest, most sublime Mendoza cabernet sauvignon and malbec their combined expertise and experience can accomplish. Authentic Argentinian identity with world-class Bordelais style. In maturation, the wine generally spends 18 months in oak, 80% of which new, and interestingly, blending proportions can vary dramatically, depending upon vintage conditions. In the case of the 2018 Caro, it is 76% malbec and 36% cabernet sauvignon, both coming from Paraje Atlamira in the Uco Valley.

2015 Bollinger PNVZ 6x75cl

RP93
"Offering up aromas of green pear, honeycomb, rye toast, candied peel and buttery pastry, it's medium to full-bodied, vinous and enveloping, with a creamy attack, fine depth at the core and ripe but... racy acids, complemented by a pinpoint mousse. This is a charming, gourmand and elegantly balanced Blanc de Noirs that represents a fine addition to the Bollinger portfolio." 93 pts., William Kelley, robertpartker.com

2019 Penfolds, Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon, South Australia 6x75cl

DE98
"Cabernet Sauvignon has provided a high point in Penfolds tastings through recent years, and this beauty seduces from the first whiff. Showing note-perfect varietal aromas, with a breeze of ripe... purple fruit over fresh, leafy herbs and rich red earth, the perfume is full and persistent. The entry is sharp and arresting, with fruit purity on point and channelled down the right corridors by supple tannins and a clean acid seam. It shows exemplary balance through to the long finish." 98 pts., David Sly, decanter.com

2019 Chateau Duhart-Milon 4eme Cru Classe, Pauillac 6x75cl

VM93
"The 2019 Duhart-Milon is bold, juicy and explosive, but also a bit hard in its tannin. I thought some of that austerity would start to resolve with élevage, but it has not, at least not yet. Dark macerated cherry, spice, tobacco and strong Cabernet Sauvignon inflections power through to the finish." 92 pts., Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com

2019 Le Dragon de Quintus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 6x75cl

VM90
"The 2019 Le Dragon de Quintus is lively and boisterous on the nose with plenty of brambly red fruit, briary and light rose petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with blackberry and red plummy fruit, a little "chunky" but very fresh with a surfeit of joie-de-vivre on the finish." 89-91 pts., Neal Martin, www.vinous.com

2020 Morgon Les Charmes, Domaine Raphael Chopin 6x75cl

Gloriously perfumed with cherry and some floral notes, it is followed on the palate by a deeply satisfying, silky texture enrobing the juicy black cherry fruit and almost meaty, savoury notes.... Structured enough to blossom over the next 7 years, this is simply delicious right now, and it will continue to improve for the medium term. Drink 2022-2027. (Mr Wheeler tasting note)

2020 Laurent Cognard, Montagny Premier Cru, Le Vieux Chateau 6x75cl

This monopole Clos vineyard, right at the top of the hill, yields fruit of rare intensity and power, with excellent balancing acidity; deservedly given a little more new oak than the rest of the... range it delivers a sublime mix of creamy citrus curd and chalky notes on the long and clean, fresh finish. Breathtaking power and elegance in this cuvee from a producer redefining expectations for a whole appellation… What a wine!

2020 Domaine Morey Coffinet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Chaumees 6x75cl

We discovered the wines of this Chassagne-Montrachet rising star (established in its current form "only" 30 years ago, although the family cellars date from the 16th century) for the first time in... 2020, and although we were immediately impressed by the portfolio of great vineyards the Morey family cultivate, it was upon tasting the wines with Thibault Morey that we fell in love with them. The estate is run according to biodynamic principles throughout. Thibault is one of the new generation of winemakers who, through precise, rigorous work and an open mind not only to traditional and modern techniques but also to different expressions of the Burgundy terroirs, produce truly exciting wines. These are wines that combine richness and power with complexity and elegance effortlessly, and they come highly recommended. For a Villages Chassagne, Thibault's Chaumes displays a lovely depth of fruit; on the mid-palate we are greeted with ripe, juicy black cherry, yet there is an excellent energy and move toward fresher flavours on the finish. The fine, gently firm and fruit-coated tannin structure makes for a wine that will drink beautifully from 3 years in bottle all the way to 8 years. Another excellent example of the consistency from this Domaine.

Very intensely citrussy yet with an elegant, pithy texture and a dry, mineral finish. This is a very serious Bourgogne Blanc that will age well for 3 to 5 years, developing more savoury complexity and length.

2020 Philippe Livera (Tilleuls), Gevrey-Chambertin, Les Evocelles 6x75cl

A new find for Mr.Wheeler in the 2019 vintage and one we are pleased to follow since then; Domaine Livera is widely considered the “next Burgundian star” tellingly both by consumers of their... exceptional wines together with their winemaking contemporaries. The Livera family have been settled on the Domaine for almost 100 years, but Damien, who has been in charge for 13 years now, has taken the wines to a different level altogether. His style is one of purity, precision of fruit and impressive depth, quite reminiscent of the wines produced by Arnaud Mortet (who is a close friend and advisor). This is an up-and-coming address and very much one to watch. Opened, approachable and again with a core of red fruit, suggesting a relatively early picking for preserving freshness and poise. Contiguous with the 1er Crus, it is widely thought that Evocelles was not included in that classification only because most of the vineyard is in Brochon rather than Gevrey. Certainly the complexity and mineral finish point to a terroir of some class, and the relatively high altitude serves it well in this warm vintage. Well worth considering as a great-value option to the premiers crus.

Mind-blowingly powerful yet ever so precise, seamless harmony even at this early stage, and a finish that unfurls layer upon layer of flavour: notes of violets and raspberry, followed by cherry then more savoury hints of winter spice and an almost umami finish. Impossibly delicious.

This is an up-and-coming address and very much one to watch. At the very centre of the Gevrey commune is Le Clos Village, a vineyard that enjoyed a particularly successful cuvée in 2020. In Philippe's hands, it is full of explosive energy with a depth of flavour to rival that of the better premiers crus, and a Gevrey easily meeting the expectations of a great village cuvée. And then some. Length is particularly impressive here, with real ambition and structure to see it safely through most of its second decade.

2020 Aurelien Verdet, Morey-Saint-Denis 6x75cl

A highly... talented young winemaker whose following is growing steadily every year, Aurélien is no exception to the adage that “Great wine is created in the vineyard”. Indeed, he lavishes great care and attention on his 5.5 ha of vines, which he farms organically to produce fruit of superb quality. The winemaking is then all about respecting that fruit to bring the terroir through, which he does with great aplomb. A rising star to watch! Wonderfully expressive with notes of violets and white pepper, Aurélien's is a characterful, full-bodied and powerful Morey Villages. The warm conditions yielded a lovely opulence to the fruit, and it shows the typical spicy element one can expect of this commune's wines, with added aromatic flourish courtesy of Aurélien's careful winemaking. A very fine villages cuvée.

Just above Clos de la Roche (with a significant chunk included in the Grand Cru vineyard), les Monts Luisants benefits from a very impressive terroir. And there is no doubt that "impressive" doesn't begin to faithfully describe this cuvée. It is, quite simply, pure dynamite - bursting with flavour, super rich, and it keeps on delivering layer upon layer of flavour - fruit, spice, savoury notes, umami on this finish. Mind-blowing.

The leitmotif here is one shared with many of the top addresses up and down the Côte d'Or - "great wine is made in the vineyard". The attention to detail and perfectionism are impressive, and yield perfect fruit, which is dealt with with the utmost delicacy and respect in the winery, by a team very mindful of what Chambolle-Musigny is all about - delicacy, elegance and silky texture. This is a new domaine to us this year, and we are very excited to bring these wines to you. Our favourite cuvée last year with the 2020 following suit: spicy, black fruit with a lovely mineral edge we found in most of the Sigaut cuvées. Much more tannic and structured than its Chambolle stable mates (as it should be) yet there is a poise and delicacy to the fruit and a silkiness to the texture that show the Chambolle influence. Long, savoury finish, with hints of tapenade. Truly excellent.
